Accomodation in Seoul for a family of 4

by plas19

Hi,
My wife and two young daughters (8 & 4) will be visitng Seoul in late November as a stopover on our way home to Australia from Europe. We will be staying for 2-3 nights. Can anyone recommend a nice hotel or appartment in a central location for up to $200 USD per night?
Also, please offer any suggestions on 'must see' attractions while we are there.
Thank you,

Based on kids age, I would recommend the neighborhood of Insadong. Its got nice walking streets, shops, its close some of the Palaces. What its not immediately next to is easy to reach from the subway.

There's lots of hotels there and they would easily be under your $200 limit for a family of four. Just do a Google search for hotels or motels in Insadong. I know a few but can't think of their names at the moment.

Travel Tips for Seoul

When in doubt, ask.

by i-s-a

Before going to Korea, I have made quite a detailed plan; where to go, what to do, what to eat, where to shop, what to bring and all the essentials. But I have found out that the best suggestions and informations come from the locals and from the visitors who have done the same trip as you are.

The picture shows the little note on how to get to the Seoul Bus Station. A Japanese lady offered me this when she found out that I wanted to go to Gyeongju alone. It saved me a lot of time, effort and anxiety in going there. And best of all, I made a new friend!

Nasi Goreng Pedas: Korean version!!!

by emilytyc

My 2 korean friends, Jacky and Peter wanted us to try the Korean version of Nasi Goreng Pedas (Malaysian spicy fried rice).

I am quite sorry that I did not take the picture before eating, but we were TOO hungry!!! It is very yummy.... and spicy!!!

Drinking Culture

by i-s-a

Koreans simply love to have a good drink...for nights out with friends/colleagues, to celebrate special occassions, to forget problems (^o^) and even just to fight the coldness of winter....drinking is an integral part of their life.

I found this very useful guide from (www.tour2korea). Helped a lot when I went out with Korean friends.

Traditional Drinking Etiquette
• Koreans offer glasses of liquor to each other as a gesture of comaraderie. When someone offers you an empty liquor glass, you are expected to hold it out and receive a fill-up, drink it empty, and in likewise fashion return it to the person who offered it to you. This drinking tradition helps promote close ties around the drinking table.

• It is a rule of courtesy for juniors to pour liquor for their seniors. The juniors have to keep paying attention not to leave a senior's glass empty. When a senior offers a junior a glass, the junior should receive it with two hands and drink with head turned aside, not facing the senior. It is also the custom to cup the right sleeve with the left hand when pouring drink for a senior.

Are you ready to enjoy Korean...

Are you ready to enjoy Korean Food ~?!In addition to the bars and nightclubs located inside major hotels, there are many nightspots in Seoul.

The area around Hongik University is filled with unique cafes, bars, and clubs featuring live performances by underground artists. Likewise, Sinchon, around Yonsei University, assumes a whole new life at night when cafes, pubs and karaoke places are packed with college students and young office workers who are attracted by its cheaper prices.

Itaewon, a popular shopping destination among foreigners, has long been famous for the nighttime scene. There are many restaurants serving cuisine from different countries. Theme clubs here also cater to foreigners.

The area around Gangnam Station is always packed with people looking for a place for a drink after work. There are numerous pubs, cafes and karaoke rooms in the area.

Apgujeong-dong area features more posh entertainment. Night owls sporting the latest in fashion flock here to spend the evening at the area¡¯s cafes, restaurants, clubs and karaoke rooms.

The Sheraton Walker Hill Casino is the only casino in Seoul. The casino features Baccarat machines, Blackjack tables and 100 slot machines. There are also roulette and big wheel games.

Normal luggages are good enough. The other time I went there,it was winter. So,you have to bring your winter clothes, jackets, scafs, gloves.Heat packs would be a very useful accesorry in winter. It keeps you warm 24 hours. Some moisturizing cream,shampoo,toothbrush,soap/shower foam...
