Romance and luxury
by wimjan about Mahaweli Reach Hotel
The rooms are huge and airy ! If you like to dwell in a bit of luxury without losing the Srilankan feeling, the hotel is most lovely ! Food is also nice, and it is one of the few places where you can enjoy a bottle of good French Wine with your food along the swimming pool at very reasonable prices. Good idea for romantics... If you like spacious rooms, this is the place !!!

This was a really relaxing hotel. Friendly and helpful staff. I must recommend the full body sauna massage. A dip in the pool and a tan if the weather allows.

one night outside Colombo
by emmet7
to all the SL experts; if you only had one night and were to travel a few hours maximum outside Colombo, where would you go? Beach destinations not necessary as I will be coming to SL after several days in Maldives.
Ease of transport and / or a favorite hotel of yours being there are a plus ;-)
Thanks in advance.

Hi there,
Kandy no doubt. Our favourite hotels there are Mahaweli Reach and Earl's Regency, both 4-5 stars. By train 2.5-3 hours and about the same by car.
All the best,
& [Sandya]

Hi,
I too suggest you visit Kandy. Its a city rich in culture, you will experience a bit of nature througout your journey. You may visit the Elephant Orphanage on the way. You can also visit the Dalada Maligawa.
Journey could take upto 3.5 hours depending on what time you travel.
All the very best !!
Emile.

Hi! I was in Sri Lanka last Nov, it was ok! for hotel: when you in the airport, get to the transfer counter, they might have some nice recommendation for you since the airport is situated in Negombo, quite close to the beach. I was in Colombo, just one night, I stayed at Hilton, then I went to Kandy- I stayed in a nice budget hotel: Majestic Tourist Hotel (highly recommended- the staff and owner were so kind and helpful. the hotel is run by a nice christian family with nice breakfast), then on my last day in Colombo, I stayed at Blue Dolphin Hotel (recommended by the airport staff from the transfer counter), it was so great! the breakfast was splendid!have a joyous trip in Sri LANKA! The Kandalama Hotel...eco-friendly luxury in the jungle near Kandy. The most amazing hotel Ive ever stayed in. Completely covered by jungle foliage and all rooms with ceiling to floor windows with views of the lake and the animals coming down to drink at sunrise. Even the bathroom has these windows so you can sit in the bath and watch the spectacular views. Check out www.heritancehotels.com and go straight to the Kandalama page. Very near Dambulla Caves and Sigirya Rock.
