Best B+B of Kandy

On the outskirts of Kandy, some 5 kilometers from city center there lies a haven of tranquility, luxury and wellness: Mahaweli Reach Hotel.
The rooms are superb - although the hotel is buildt in modern style, the rooms resemble the high and big rooms of former colonial days. The pool is excellent, in the middle of a serene park with old, big trees, stretching around the various parts of the hotel.
Service is not bad, (but not living up to the 5-star-rating), the only drawback is definitely the food.
It is not necessary to describe all the fiascos, experienced with the Mahaweli - kitchen (warm beer and cold steaks, etc etc).My sincere advice: savor the hotel as one of the good Kandy.
- retreats, but better book B+B only !

Unique Quality: Superb Pool, large and high, tranquil rooms. Beautiful setting somewhat out of the city center

THE WORST HOTEL YOU COULD GO TO

Unfortunately i had to encounter this, the worst stay of my life!!! the food was tasteless, the service had no form of professionalism or proper standards, seriously they call themselves a 5 star, starting from the front office the reception has no clue about anything they keep calling all the departments available just to get small information. An obnoxious front office manager or whoever that was was the same, he himself has no clue as to what the front office is there for all he knows to blab is the star of the hotel...! the rooms were horrible we asked for a river view and what we were given was a room facing the laundry area.and the room stank so much i had to complain.whoever the housekeeping head is has to be a LUNATIC!!!!!....SINCE THE ROOMS WERE NOT HOW THEY TOLD US IT WOULD BE WHEN WE MADE THE RESERVATION!! .i hope the MD knows what he's doing because he certainly has recruited employees who have the least amount of qualifications and experience....the restaurant was not clean at all the floors were dirty the linen was dirty and worn out, the cutlery wasn't clean enough along with an IDIOTIC restaurant manager who was mostly on the phone not paying any attention to the guest needs. im sad to mention these things in the public but anyone out there who wants to stay here my advice is DONT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THEY CHARGE ABOVE AVERAGE RATES WHICH WOLD BE ALRIGHT IF IT WAS HILTON OR SOMETHING BUT WITH WORSE THAN "POOR" SERVICE THEY ARE JUST MONEY GREEDY PEOPLE...

Unique Quality: UNIQUENESS - RUN BY A BUNCH OF FOOLS!

Romance and luxury

by wimjan about Mahaweli Reach Hotel

The rooms are huge and airy ! If you like to dwell in a bit of luxury without losing the Srilankan feeling, the hotel is most lovely ! Food is also nice, and it is one of the few places where you can enjoy a bottle of good French Wine with your food along the swimming pool at very reasonable prices. Good idea for romantics... If you like spacious rooms, this is the place !!!

This was a really relaxing hotel. Friendly and helpful staff. I must recommend the full body sauna massage. A dip in the pool and a tan if the weather allows.

one night outside Colombo

by emmet7

to all the SL experts; if you only had one night and were to travel a few hours maximum outside Colombo, where would you go? Beach destinations not necessary as I will be coming to SL after several days in Maldives.

Ease of transport and / or a favorite hotel of yours being there are a plus ;-)

Thanks in advance.

Hi there,

Kandy no doubt. Our favourite hotels there are Mahaweli Reach and Earl's Regency, both 4-5 stars. By train 2.5-3 hours and about the same by car.

All the best,

& [Sandya]

Hi,

I too suggest you visit Kandy. Its a city rich in culture, you will experience a bit of nature througout your journey. You may visit the Elephant Orphanage on the way. You can also visit the Dalada Maligawa.

Journey could take upto 3.5 hours depending on what time you travel.

All the very best !!

Emile.

Hi! I was in Sri Lanka last Nov, it was ok! for hotel: when you in the airport, get to the transfer counter, they might have some nice recommendation for you since the airport is situated in Negombo, quite close to the beach. I was in Colombo, just one night, I stayed at Hilton, then I went to Kandy- I stayed in a nice budget hotel: Majestic Tourist Hotel (highly recommended- the staff and owner were so kind and helpful. the hotel is run by a nice christian family with nice breakfast), then on my last day in Colombo, I stayed at Blue Dolphin Hotel (recommended by the airport staff from the transfer counter), it was so great! the breakfast was splendid!have a joyous trip in Sri LANKA! Yeh, Kandy sounds good for you. Best hotels I would recommend are Amaya Hills, Eearl's Regency, Citadel and Mahaweli Reach. Amaya hills is my favorite.

The Kandalama Hotel...eco-friendly luxury in the jungle near Kandy. The most amazing hotel Ive ever stayed in. Completely covered by jungle foliage and all rooms with ceiling to floor windows with views of the lake and the animals coming down to drink at sunrise. Even the bathroom has these windows so you can sit in the bath and watch the spectacular views. Check out www.heritancehotels.com and go straight to the Kandalama page. Very near Dambulla Caves and Sigirya Rock.
