Ruwala Resortis located on the west coast of Sri Lanka hidden amongst the palm trees. We stayed in a Speacious challet close to the lagoon and the sunset was simply amazing. The atmosphere is quiet and calm and the food divine. It ‘s a wonderful place for couples to chill out and enjoy their surroundings. Service is really friendly but at the same time gives you enough privacy to enjoy your stay. They offer tours to Dolphin watching as well. Highly recommended Without a doubt.
open-sided restaurant, Local, as well as international food is served and the kitchen caters to a wide array of palates. BBQs are also served at the restaurant and are prepared with fresh sea-food purchased directly from the local fisherman and fresh vegetables from the farmers of the area. Local beer, juices and soft-drinks are served and guests are welcome to bring their own liquor, friendly and efficient staff to see to every need.
Ruwala’s ‘Activity Center’ is fully equipped for kayaking, boating, fishing, camping and even wall climbing. Safety gear, including life jackets and harnesses, are available and recommended.
Our stay duration was just two days, but the time spent in the hotel was worth the money. We got a good discount on the published rates through our travel agency, more than 20% down !
The location, though quiet, was quite close to the Kandy City itself.
The rooms are quite comfortable, and the service to say the least was on time and friendly.
The food we got piping hot, and was quite wholesome.
Altogether we can recommend this hotel for future travelers, even for a one night stop or as a base to explore Kandy and the Cultural Triangle.
The staff were very much outgoing and always had a smile for us. The views from the rooms were great, overlooking the Lake and part of the city.
Even the drivers are treated well here.
Our stay was just a couple of nights, but it was excellent. The rooms are very comfortable, the Restaurant and Room Service was very good. The food was tasty and with lots of variety. The Ayurvedic massage was really good. on top of all that, the staff are very friendly and helpful, with beautiful smiles.
We booked through a company (website and mail address below) and got a 20% discount, which we would not have got if we booked directly.
Yes, we fully recommend this hotel, and if you want to it is a good base to explore the Cultural Triangle too.
The Infinity Pool is a long one, and flanked on one side by a Rice Field. The Entrance is through a Mango Orchard, and very relaxing atmosphere. The gardens/grounds are utilized to grow some flowers, but mostly fruits, and one can see Banana, Pineapple and Papaya plants and trees as well as several types of vegetables and herbs (all used for our consumption).
If one goes straight down the property, you cross the parameters and come to a Bubbling stream, cool under the giant and old huge Kumbuk Trees, with lots of huge Giant Vines hanging down and and precarious looking makeshift bridge which the villagers use to cross the stream, really enchanting place and cool too.
Needing to catch an early flight the next morning we stayed here the night before. Service was indeed outstanding and our room excellent. Food was OK in the buffet restaurant but nothing exceptional. Recommend this hotel if you need something close to the airport.
Hotel belongs to the Taj chain of hotels.
Its near McDonalds if you are worried about the food there. Its near the railway station, about 400 metres away. Its near the best nightlife for normal people. To go to Hiltons nightclub might be fancy, but not very interresting.
Its near Indian Visa Application Centre.
It costs 4000 rupies, about 35 USD.
It has a large flatscreen TV with movie channels. Its high standard but in bad condition. It would be a good idea to grind the wooden floor, and to do a little cheap maintenance, like the noisy AC. I will stay there again, they were nice and let me check in again 10 minutes after checking out because of incorrect information of train schedule.
Base Karaoke & Night club is 50 metres away, southwards. R+B is nearby, a fancy high standard place.
It"s better if you choose to stay in 5 or at least 4 star hotels...The rest are not suitable...I stayed in Hilton Colombo and it wasn't as good as I expected ...just ok...I would recommend Mont Lavinia Hotel...It's ex-governor residence ...So beautiful veiw, wild ocean beneath your feet...just amazinig
We found the web site of God Paradise, Horana, Sri Lanka, and thought it better place for echo tourrism. We reserved it online for full board for seven persons and confirmed it over the phone. They accepted the booking. But after visiting there by a terrible road we found that they have only two low quality double rooms and one single room. (They have mentioned it in there web site as two family rooms and one double room). When we inquire regarding the accomadation of seven persons in two double beds and one single bed they told us that they can provide us two mats. When we told the manager that we have reserved it for full board, he said that full board means three meals only, and they have accomadated more than ten in their resort in three beds and on the floor. When we refused to accomadate in such a manner, he started to scold us in flith words and gave two options. One is to have the lunch for 50 US dollars we have paid or to just leave the place. Then we left the place without the lunch. My reccomandation is never accomadate in a place in Sri Lanka, where there is no recognition and reputation. My god, never visit GOD PARADISE RESORT, Horana, Sri Lanka.
No pool, There is no any great views, Road to the resort is terrible; Reaching there even by a 4WD double cab is very difficult.
Galle Face hotel is a colonial hotel located in the prime area in Colombo. The seaview is amazing...I checked in Colombo, even Hilton dosent have the kind of view that Galle Face has...The facilities in the hotel are just like any other star hotel, but the colonial architecture looks cool...
Though this is the only hotel I stayed in while in colombo I can bet that the stay here would be cool because of the colonial ambience...
I would recommend this hotel to everyone as it was a good experience...
The seaview is awesome...especially the restuarant & the ba rbeside the sea ... its good for a drink in the evening...
I was looking forward to my stay at this hotel in Colombo.
Things were about chaotic on my arrival, as the room was not ready etc etc. But, the staff really went out of their way to make my stay as pleasant as possible. I had a great room, with good views.
The breakfast is definitely a highlight!
I stayed in the old original hotel and had a great stay.
They have many different options at different prices. The Old Hotel is much cheaper and was very nice.
It is a great place to stay
Another wonderful hotel I stayed in during my visit to Sri Lanka.
The rooms are big, with balconies and modern bathrooms.
The views from the rooms are great.
( These are the rooms in the new wing.)
The staff is very good and service is of a good quality.
It is ideally located between Galle (3km) and Unawatuna (4km).
They have a very good website
Peaceful and quiet - a good experience
The Bandarawela Hotel is very centrally located in the town. It is very nice hotel and I really enjoyed my stay here.
The room reminded me a bit of a room dating from days gone by, but is very charming.
The hotel is also eco-friendly and ‘green’ in their approach.
They serve very good food.
Reading the review in the 'Footprint Guide' - I cannot believe they describe the same hotel - the hotel is much better than their review. The rooms are not close to the Mosque which is not noisy as described. The rooms are not cramped, I sometimes wonder what people expect?
Well trained staff
They have a very good website
This is a nice Hotel, surrounded by trees and wonderful views of Kandy.
The rooms are very basic, but clean with a balcony and good bathroom.
The staff is very good and friendly.
There is an outdoor pool and a beautiful spa. The setting of the spa is actually very nice – worth visiting.
Before going to Srilanka I read a few reviews about hotels there...This hotel - Hotel Hilltop is in Kandy...The review I got from internet was good...but I'll tell you, the service , location & ambience is much better than described by people on the net...the staff is just awesome and so is the food...Infact we liked it more than that of Galle Face in colombo...
However the rooms might not be that attractive to all ...but its just cool...
If u'll book the room over the net it'll cost about 40$...else its $60...but worth it
My girlfriend and I stayed in Sri Lanka a few years ago. We were slightly concerned at the time because of the conflict between the Tamils and the Sri Lankan Government. We need not have been concerned - it is the best place we've ever visited.
There are quite a lot of touts out there, however that does not mean you will taken advantage of. We stayed with some lovely people and learned to trust them. We then got passed around with their local knowledge and organised our own tour that way. We stayed in a lovely place called Sunny's Guest House which is between Ambalangoda and Acurala. We also stayed with a kind family in Ella - which is somewhere we would most definitely recommend visiting. We also stayed with a kind, small family run operation in Peradeniya, which is right by Kandy. The place was called Hannifas. They recently set up a website:
It is a small operation, but run by a lovely family.
Please don't let the recent conflict put you off visiting. Heed the advice by the home office on what regions to visit, but the country is safe to visit. I aim to return as soon as I have saved up enough money.
Rich experience of Sri Lankan culture
The Pinnawela Elephant Orphanage is situated northwest of the town of Kegalle, halfway between the present capital Colombo and the ancient royal residence Kandy in the hills of central Sri Lanka. It was established in 1975 by the Sri Lanka wildlife department in a 25-acre (100,000 m2) coconut property near the Maha Oya river. The orphanage was originally founded in order to afford care and protection to the many orphaned elephants found in the jungle. As of 2009, there are about 84 elephants. While most of the elephants are healthy, one is blind and one, named Sama, has lost her front right leg due to a landmine.
HOTEL ELEPHANT BAY
Hotel elephant bay is situated in the Sabaragamuwa province of Sri Lanka, which is about 87km away from Colombo. To reach Pinnawala you have to turn from the 82nd kilometer post (karadupana junction) of the Colombo–Kandy main road and come through Rambukkana road. If you travel by train the nearest railway station to reach Pinnawala is Rambukkana (hotel is 1km from the station
