Grand Crown Hotel, Anuradhapura Sri Lanka: Anuradhapura's best hotel manager

We stayed at this hotel in February 2014 and booked only for one night consider our experiences about booking in advance and finnaly to be dissappointed from the reality. From the first minute when we arrived in that hotel after spent long hours in the slowly train from Colombo, I felt so relief to realized how warm and friendly the personnels from that hotel are. We were expected to come and our room is ready. The room is good, clean and tidy. We got complete briefing on what we could do at that day. After taking a rest, we went around the ancient city with the bike their provide, free.
Ofcourse I recommend people to try this hotel because it come to that stand thank to their great manager mr. Samanta. He is the one who supervice himself on all the neccesities what we, the guests need. He will stand by at the breakfast time to make sure our breakfast well prepared and check all the preparation for our day tour in that very special ancient city even he has lot more guests at that time. Finnaly we stayed the whole time in Grand Crown Hotel.

It has only 2,5 stars but their personnal service is almost 5 stars hotel has.
The location is excelent! Only 8 minutes from the bus station and 15 minutes from the railway station.
It lies not in the crowded area, it is quiet and strategic. They have bicycle that you could rent and go with it around their beautifull lakes. I learnt for the first time from this hotel the real Sri Lankan breakfast! Being myself according to my husband as a very good cook, special that I like to cook Malay food; but then the two of us were agreed that their cook are excellent. Real tasty and yammi..

Hasini Holiday Homestay: Quite and Comfortable

Located 5 minutes from the Anuradhapura Railway station and 10 minutes from the Central Commercial Area, this quite little guest house is better then 5 others I have seen before check in. Its close to the OLD town and more convenient to the tourist visiting historical sites.

SLR800.00 for Single or Double, Huge rooms with attached bath/shower. Please note that the tap water is not filtered and not suitable for mouth wash or brushing your teeth, better use bottled water.

Tissawewa Grand: Peaceful Colonial Style

Spent a wonderful 2 nights here.
Excellent and friendly staff.
Highly recommend this place.
Close to all the archeological sites of Anuradhapura and next to the museum.

Wonderful dutch colonial style building surrounded by well looked after gardens.
The perfect place to rest and sit on the verandha after a day exploring the site.

The hotel - well the groundsman had a bike that I hired to tour around the site.

Samanala Tourist Guest House: Avoid it!

We were unlucky enough to arrive in Anuradhapure on a rainy day when almost everything was booked by locals. So choices were limited (particularly if you check around under rain). We ended up to this bottom line establishment, which was the worst accommodation and definitely better to avoid by any means.
Dirty, no hot water, and several insects moving around from ants to cockroaches…
For the price we rented the triple (1100 SLR), it was the most expensive and by far the worst value in all Sri Lanka. Avoid it like hell (unless they renovate it).
Only advantage that it was on a quiet side street and they had a small yard for a refreshment
