Not easy to find...

Everywhere in Sri Lanka where you get out from a bus or train you will meet a lot of people proposing you a big variety of hotels and guesthouses. Not in Jaffna. Here the turistic infrastructure is still very limited. Big hotels are now being used by army, a lot of others are not yet reconstructed... The fact that knowledge of english is emong the local people rather limited is not helping at all. So it took me a while before I found a place where to stay. It was a "no-name" hotel - just few rooms in the back of a radio-TV shop.
So don't came in the late afternoon to Jaffna, otherwise you can have some problems to find an accomodation...

Unique Quality: My hotel was correct, without bathroom in the room but with AC, which is quite important - Jaffna is more humid then the rest of the island. And have in mind that a limited choice has an impact on prices - they are higher then elsewere in Sri Lanka.

Yarl Beach Inn: A Place to stay

The original Yarl Beach Inn had 20 rooms in it but after the war the place was reduced to nothing more than a pile of concrete. The present Inn has 4 rooms with 2 of them being air conditioned. It's a very quiet place (there were no other guests when I was there) with very friendly owners.

Unique Quality: Friendly service.
