If you choose to stay in Ella, I would highly recommend you a great place to stay - Beauty Mount Tourist Inn.Modest, friendly owner, great food,low price...(just order your meal well in advance, it takes them a bit longer to cook it :)). Sleeping in the train we almost forgot to go out in Ella when the owner of the GH jumped in and asked where we were going. He took us to the GH and because of lack of tourists (Tsunami) we got a really good price for the rooms (750 LKR, but normaly it should be at least 1000-1500 LKR for the doble)
The GH just opened in 2004, so everything is new and the rooms are great.

there are many fine guest houses with magnificent views. this is not the only one.
if you like privacy and independence this is not the place for you. If you like family around all the time then stay here.
there is a fine line here between professionalism and family.
also do not book tours, transport etc here; there will be axtra charge to proprietor.
book at Dream Cafe in town; reliable and ho;nest.

This is a beautiful little place with four bright rooms with ensuite bathrooms, fans, excellent service and a spectacular view of Ella Gap. It is quite new and easily missed. We had a wonderful stay there. I documented our entire Sri Lanka trip at :

The hotel stay was part of my 8 day trip package as I specified the accommodation should be basic non-air con with fan and attached bathroom. It turned out to be good selection and I am happy with it.
The hotle has classical look and you can see some common area in one of the pics. Very relaxing. But it is about 70m walk along a ally from the main street. Bring along a torch if you "scare" of dark. Shouldn't be that bad!! hehe.

Three upstair balcony rooms with open sitting with the nice view of Ella rock. Clean,very comfortable seven feet long specialy made beds. Bath rooms with real HOT water.
The owners are very help ful and friendly. They give maps and information to walk arround. they look after their guests very well.
They serve home made fresh and tasty foods. Western,Eastern,Chinese,Indian food too. Niranjila wife of the guest house owner is a really a good cook. she is expert in cooking traditional Sri Lankan dishes. (tomato & garlic curry,Banana flower curry,Mango, manioc curry etc.)
