Kalu's Hideaway: For all you cricket fans
This small but lovely jungle retreat hotel is owned by the famous cricketer, Romesh Kaluwitharana in a small village close to Uda Walawe National Park.
There are only 5 rooms here, one of which is the "Honeymoon Suite" on the second level and the place has a very homely feel to it. The rooms are clean and full of hand crafted wooden furniture that gives them an almost "chalet" feel. The rooms are air-conditioned and have mosquito nets, but no TV. There is a TV in the reception area however.
Outdoors, you have an open dining area and a swimming pool below that. There are also hammocks and a volleyball net.
We had breakfast included in our room rate which was very nice and we did have a BBQ in the evening as Romesh and his family were staying there too. There is also an a la carte menu to choose from. Kalu did take the time to chat to us for ages and the other staff were very friendly too.
Clean and nice rooms. Close to Uda Walawe.
