accomodation for a older family

We are a family of 9, 17yrs to 60, we like more natural area, on the beach but also with shops 7 restuarant available to us, we thought of Hikkaduwa but just read ur reveiw, can you suggest somewhere else for us to look into.

Hi Kerry,

Hmmm... Hikkaduwa can indeed be a bit crowded and noisy. Two other areas maybe better suit the needs, because there the hotels are a lot further away from the busy main road: Unawatuna and Bentota. U'tuna has lots of boutique guesthouses and two star-class hotels; Bentota has a wider star-class choice. For Bentota, the closer they are to the peninsula (or even on it, like Ceysands) the further from the main road.

"Touristy and unappealing"

Hikkaduwa is the epitome of beach vacations for massive affordable tourism
Back in ‘70s was Sri Lanka’s hippy hangout and the budget alternative to Bentota resort hotels.
Unfortunately it is a live proof of how unplanned tourist grow can lead a place to being completely unattractive. Nowadays the beach has been limited in a thin strip of sand overshadowed by buildings.
On the other hand being touristy means more accommodation and dining options. But it won’t get my vote for beach holidays as long as nearby Mirissa offers such a better and lovelier beach.
