In a country of extrordinarily friendly and helpful people, the Kosgoda Beach Resort was perhaps the friendliest home of all.
Great prices (very cheap for a hotel), great food, fantastic scenery and best of all a superb staff who go out of their way to make your stay a special one!
Amenities wise they have several bars, a nice restaurant, a large swimming pool, spa and various recreational facilities that in my mind are pointless because the area is so tranquil and the weather so good you just want to sun bathe or take a dip in the pool!!
The type of person who would like to stay at the Kosgoda would be intersted in seeing real Sri Lankan hospitality in stunning surroundings and with good affordable prices. Don't come here if you are looking for lots of activities or the local nightlife.
The Kosgoda was affected like so many other hotels along this stretch of coast by the recent disaster but I hope they will bounce back from this and next time i am out that way i will be sure to pop in and see how they are getting on.
The rooms had been recently upgraded and although perhaps lacking in facilities the decor and quality of finish were better than that of many 5 star hotels I had encoutered in Sri Lanka.
Nearby the resort is a turtle hatchery and the hotel can arrange a visit for you during the day to the hatchery itself or on certain nights to observe the turtles coming ashore to lay their eggs.
Alternatively a lagoon on one side of the resort enables the hotel to take guests out in narrow paddle boats and a guide will point out the local wildlife which just from our brief trip included monkeys, bats, eagles and shrimp.
