Sudu Surfing Cottage: What a relaxing place

A friendly Sinhala family run this cozy place with all the amenities you can need in a place like this: hot water, Internet accessibility, wood furniture, garden, sun beds in a very quiet environment where no body hassles you.

They arranged anything we needed within our stay like a motor bike, a local SIM card, any kind of drinks.

The food is cooked by the "mum" and was tasty and varied.

A new brand isolated cottage (cabana) of 75 sq mts big, built of local wood. Placed a few meters from the water. Made out of three spacious parts; bathroom, bedroom and terrace.

Direct and great view of the Indian Ocean.

Enjoyable sun sets. A permanent water wave symphony sounds out here.

long beach cottage, induwura: quiet beach guesthouse

this was my base while i was attending my daughters wedding 5 miles down the coast. the owner is very friendly and helpful but i think not so happy that i used local buses and tuk uks instead of using his services. i got the impression that he likes to be needed.

the room was reasonably good until the electricity cut out when i switched the fan up to more than level 3 which made sleeping rather difficult for me. long beach cottage is right beside the road and the railway line. with a balsting ceiling fan the noise is not a problem but with a slo fan i founf both the temperature and the noise difficult

theres a lovely hopper stall opposite

very quiet beach

close to the turtle hatcheries

ocean view guest house: negombo hotel

this was just what i neded for a restful night before a long journey home. you cant actually see the sea from here so you might be disappointed if you thought it on the beach but it suited me. i had a balcony, good size room and nice clean bathroom. it is on the main touriststrip with street food and lots of restaurants around

i want there long enough to comment tho id describe it more as a horel than a guesthouse

icebear guesthouse: closer to old town than the tourist strip negombo

i actually stayed next door in an apartment belonging to the guesthouse,. i think the accomodation here was not as clean or attractve as the main house but that was full. it had air con which was my main priority. the food was good but not cheap. the actal guest hoiuse is beautiful and it was a shame i was not invited to use the facilities until i came to pay. id say go check it all out, if you stay there you are entitle to do so

free bike hire
direct access to beach
local food stall just yards away where they wont rip you off

heritance hotel: wedding venue, ahungalla

i shared my daughters bedroom on the night before her wedding. the rooms were spacious, satff helpful and food good. beach is safe, whole place is guarded, swimming pools are excellent, this is luxury tourist accomodation and not of my liking.

before going i was unable to find a cheaper alternative close by but on my return i received a message from 123herantha on this site who saiys

if you want sun and to be lazy and very protected form the world you can just stay here. the sea may not be safe for swimming tho, the waves are strong and there are rip currents. the danger flags appear to be a permanent feature and cannot be relied on for at times it is safe to swim

club palm garden: not sri lanka's best hotel

Right i would not recommend this hotel for so many reasons,The food was ok but a bit spicy for some, black pepper is used on everything even salad. The staff are brilliant and they help you with every little problem you have.Just look around before you book your stay.take sterling with you not doller. because you get a better exchange rate.

##### PLEASE DON'T RIDE THE HORSES THEY ARE LAME AND IN PAIN#########

the pool was very clean and there was always 2 pool attandents on. the entertainment was good(only the day forget the night time)

club palm garden: club palm garden. sri lanka

Ok lets start. I am not going to be one of them who come on hear and complain that the hotel was crap because it rained, i am going to be honest about the hotel.

The staff:i can not complain about the staff, they were more than helpful and any problem we had they were there to help and solve it.

The food: myself i was not bothered about the food due to the fact i love spicey food,But my wife does not eat black pepper(and black pepper goes on everything even salad).

The entertainment: During the daytime the entertainment was very good. Then came some rain and the entertainment staff was not to be seen. There are some things to keep you busy during the small showers, but do them on your own because they have not got a clue when it rains. The night shows are....erm.....diffrent.

The hotel its self. The hotel was spotless and the rooms were cleanded twice a day,There was a mosquito killer pluged in the room and changed every day, The cleaners are freindly and they try to talk to you but there english is not that great. The resturant was very clean with fans in the eating area to keep you cool..

If you are going here the best mossy spray is the boots silver tin spray.

The pool was very clean and there was 2 pool attandents.snooker room was ok but very hot on some days.

Charming hotel: Bandarawela Hotel since 1893

We spent one night in this charming colonial style hotel. For most people their journey usually end in Nuwara Eliya, however by continuing on to Banderawela on our 10 hour train journey through the rolling hill country

An ideal base for excursions to Horton Plains, Adisham Monastery, the tea plantations, nearby waterfalls, Udawalawe Wildlife Sanctuary and Hakgala Botanical Gardens.

Globe Trotter: Tasty foo/clean accomodation

At the time of writing there are only three rooms (there are plans to build more), but they are absolutely spotless, with tiled floors, shower/bathroom and fan.

Raja, the owner, was the nicest chap we met on our whole trip. He's a very gentle and laid-back guy and is a former tourist guide, making him very knowledgable about everywhere in the country.

The food is excellent, amongst the best we had in Sri Lanka, and is cooked by a young man straight out of chef school. Get there quick before some big hotel snaps him up!

The rates are very reasonable and Raja can get discounts for safaris and can advice on onward journeys.
