Blaspheme!

Another land mark hotel ruined by the tasteless and incompetent. Right along side the busy Colombo harbor, with a colorful history and famous restaurant, it is now; just another cheap 3 star inn after the new owners striped it of its original gently battered grandeur. Like for example, covering the ancient teak wood floors with synthetic wall to wall carpeting, hiring a tired looking person on a electronic keyboard to dish out popular tunes in the quaint restaurant overlooking the harbor, replacing the historic maple lined elevator with a florescent lit Mitsubishi, and generally speaking, making the GOH into another sterling example of how NOT to renovate historic buildings. Shameful.

not a **** hotel !!!

I stayed here 3 days in 2000 and was not too excited. Okay start with the pros: city center within walking distance and quiet. Here are the cons: I think their name does not meet expectations in general. The facilites just aren't like it. My room wasn't in a condition of a Grand hotel at all. There also was a dispute at the check out (inproper change).

Colombo Heritage Hotel

The Hotel is not in good shape. Built in 1837 out of an allowance of 30000 Pounds granted by Her Majesty the Queen Victoria, it was commissioned & built in 8 months. But the present owners have not kept up with the times: cheap decor, tacky paneling, unimaginative illumination, remarkably bad plumbing systems, and held up by crazy protocol which makes photography prohibited outside from the windows, the hotel has an entire derelict floor on view from the internal guest rooms.

The Night Lounge looked sleazy and infested with cheap girls and their flashing smiles.

Food is however good. The Harbour Room on 4th FL hosts good buffet & banquets, but the magnificent view is stifled by protocol and a funny fleet of glum steward boys. But the ARchitecture is magnificent and can easily be restorable...... Good Luck to the Grand Old Lady of Colombo!

Heritage Hotel in Colombo

Opened in 1875; a stylish colonial hotel with a lot of tradition, situated in the heart of Colombo with the harbor view.

Unique Quality: Imagine if u stay in more than a hundred years old hotel! :-)

Help me plan my 3 evenings in Colombo

by vastuta

I will be reaching colombo by 20th march evening. Can you help me as what all i can do for next 3 evening. I will be busy during the day and hence.

I want to shop - which places
I want to enjoy food & drink - which place
I want to get entertained - which place

I will be put up at Holiday Inn and would love to meet locals and dine with them. I look forward to invitation if someone wish to extend the same. I jam looking forward to employ few marketing and back office people for my forthcoming venture in Sri Lanka.

Hi, liberty pl;aza and majesti are the "best" two shopping places plus the bazaar near the grand oriental hotel

nightlife is totally dead in colombo. galle face hotel, blue leopard, pier 3 among a few other places to try. BAsically if male and single plenty of dingy "hooker bars" but for those thatw ant real nightlife there is none but drinking and eating

To meet locals well just eat in a local restaurant or go to a bar.
