The Holiday Inn

Why, no matter where in the world you go, are the Holiday Inns always the ugliest hotels? Inside is all fine, the rooms are great, but the exteriors always look more like a multi-storey car park than a classy hotel.

This one isn't the worst I've seen but it's hardly inspiring. But again inside is what you'd expect anywhere in the world and a very good quality 4 star hotel. It's right in the centre of town, within walking distance from the Galle Face Green and Colpetty shopping district, but tucked away down a side street to avoid the noise of Galle Road. There's a very good pool out the back.

Unique Quality: The restaurants are pretty good but your best bet is to go to Koluu's right next door - probably my favourite restaurant in the city. With the new Glow bar on the same street, and the Crescat centre just around the corner, this is now one of the liveliest areas in Colombo. Just don't try saying that street name when you're drunk!
