Renuka Hotel is a nice hotel on busy Galle Road. Rooms are squeeky clean and very comfortable. You might want to ask for a room away from the street to avoid some of the traffic noise.

The staff broke our debit card...
we went here today morning for breakfast. when paying the staff first took our card away from the room (naturally they are supposed to handle it only in front of the customer) and then brought it back broken on the magnetic strip. as we are foreigns and this was only source of money for us it caused us troubles. however the staff pretended that it' s not their responsibility and didn' t even apologize! don' t come to this hotel if you expect to be treated with respect.

Hotel Renuka
There's not a lot of good mid-range hotels in Colombo. Mostly it's either 5 star luxury or bargain basement guesthouses. The Hotel Renuka is probably the best bet if you're after something in between.
It's clean with nice rooms and overall a good 3 star standard. The restaurant in the basement is one of the best places to try proper Sri Lankan food - order well in advance for the best meals. It's right on Galle Road so you're in the centre of town but it's fairly quiet inside. On the downside (to most people but not everyone!) the little street next door is Colombo's closest thing to a proper red light district. It's hardly Bangkok but you might get a bit of easy-going hassle late at night and lots of offers of Russian women from the tuk-tuk drivers.

Accommodation in Colombo, Sri Lanka
We plan to travel to Colombo for my sister's wedding this December. I would like to know from your recent experiences(we last visited in July/August 2004) if you can recommend cheap, clean accommodation anywhere between Colombo 3 (kollupitiya) to Colombo 6 (Wellawatte). FYI: the wedding is at Galle Face Hotel - so close to that would be handy I guess.
There will be a big contingent from London (where she and her English fiance live) and a huge contingent from Australia (where most of our family is located) - and I'm in charge of finding suitable accommodation for any of these people who can't be bothered finding and booking their own (the trails of being a big sister!)
Last time there were 7 of us travelling and we rented a house for a week in Wellawatte which was great.
So houses, units, hotel rooms - we are open to all and any suggestions!!! Any help will be marvellous.
