Hibiscus Beach Hotel, Kalutara
Unique Quality: A basic hotel but with such friendly and helpful staff. The beach is literally a stone's throw away and the main town about 10 minutes by tuk-tuk. Each evening brought a different kind of cuisine to the table; from Sri Lankan to Chinese to Indonesian.

Hibiscus Beach Hotel, Kalutara
Most nights at the hotel there was some sort of entertainment, including this night with traditional Sri Lankan dancers. The costumes, dancing and music all made a great night of cultural entertainment.
Is it sfe to swim in the sea at Kalatura? Are there sufficient ATM"s or should i take travellers cheques? Has anyone stayed at Hibiscus Beach Hotel? has anyone got any tips or advice on places to visit in that area?

1) Is it sfe to swim in the sea at Kalatura?
Generally yes OUTSIDE the monsoon season. So from December to April only. In the wrong season 90% of the time the red flag.
2) Are there sufficient ATM"s or should i take travellers cheques?
Plenty ATM's in town, at least 3-4 that accept Maestro and Cirrus.
4)Has anyone got any tips or advice on places to visit in that area?
Plenty outings possible. Nearby the big temple and river boat trip. A bit further sea turtle hatcheries, Hikkaduwa glass bottom boat, Galle historic town, Hikkaduwa moonstone mines, Sinharaja forest reserve, etc. etc.

Yes, but ONLY during non monsoon season, ie November thru to March
ATMS??
Yes again, there is some in the Kalutara area, but maybe a tuk tuk ride away from your hotel, so unless you are going to be withdrawing large amounts then the tuk tuk fare to bank and back to hotel may just make this not justifiable.
Better in my opinion to take Travellers Cheques (Sterling if from UK), all hotels will change them for you, although rate will be little less than bank.
