Resort Stay at a Resonable Price

This place doesn’t show up in either Lonely Planet or Rough Guide, which is too bad. It’s nice for a 3-star hotel, right next door to Browns Beach, with their well-tended beach and beach activities accessible for half the price (the beach in front of CB was well-tended too). It’s on the southern end of the beach hotel strip, about 1.5 km easy walk from Negombo town center. Staff is friendly and helpful, the buffet breakfast (minimal extra charge) is varied and is quite good. I had a couple of delicious sandwiches (one not on the menu, made better than my request), and a tasty barbeque buffet dinner here as well. The curry will make foreigners cry. Literally. (In Sri Lanka, that means it’s good curry.)

(Note: I had room 116, single, no frills.) Rooms don’t have TV unless you ask for it and pay a little extra (this may change), nor are there refrigerators or in-room safety boxes, but you can leave valuables at the desk. There’s no Internet connection. Furniture isn’t conducive to sitting and working, and why are you trying to sit and work at a beach resort anyway? My bathroom was “cozy” and worn more than just around the edges, but was immaculate, and everything worked. The room was cozy too, but the bed was huge and so comfortable. The room was cool in the mornings and evenings. The view from the rooms isn’t perfect, but the view from poolside is as good as any hotel on the beach resort strip.

It appears that all rooms look out over the pool/dining area. They have a DJ and disco at the poolside bar on Saturday nights, which is noisy past midnight if there’s a special event, which there was when I was there. It was noisy. They were also hosting an event the following Sunday morning, although it didn’t start until after 10am. That was noisy too. There’s a hotel entertainment and activities coordinator (the “Activator,” according to his shirt), a nice guy who has been doing it for many years and enjoys it, and who can advise on activities not tied to the hotel.

Hello,

The hotel is very basic. You can find better accommodation in Negombo for about the same price. Negombo is a nice location with a good beach. Do you have plans on visiting any other locations in Sri Lanka? For more info : nilankap@sltnet.lk

Cheers,

Nilanka
