Seashells, Seashells on the sea shore
by GrahamA about The Seashells Hotel, Negombo
The Seashells Hotel , Negombo is one of three Jetwing Hotels along the Negombo seafront. It may be the lowest standard of the three, though its service, good food and friendly welcoming staff make it a pleasant location to stay.
Don't have great expectations though, it does not offer vibrant night life or entertainment and the rooms do not have TV. It is the kind of hotel to use as a base for your adventures in Sri Lanka and well located to travel to inland tourist attractions and safari's.
Be aware, that if you plan a stay here in Monsoon season you will not be able to swim in the sea. You can however relax on the beach and top up your tan.
A number of beach sellers (touts) operate along the beach; all are very friendly inoffensive and harmless. They earn very little and try hard to part you from your cash, though do check out their wares as you can pick up one or two bargains if you haggle. This accomodation is clean and welcoming, with good service. The facilities are sparse, but the hotel does have a nice pool.
All rooms have ocean views and some rooms do have A/C (recommended). The ocean view is pleasant and with a westward looking aspect, gives the best view of the setting sun.
The restaurant is open plan with an outside balcony area. The food was always good and waiters always obliging.

Ranweli Holiday Village
by VickyP
I am due to arrive in Sri Lanka on 27 November 2004. Can you please give me some information on Ranweli. Is the hotel in the middle of nowhere, or is there a town nearby with shops, restaurants etc?
Has anybody any reviews on the Seashells Hotel in Negombo?
Many thanks in advance

Ranweli is in Waikkal but you have to get to the hotel by boat so access is not straight forward.
Let me know if you need more info: nilankap@sltnet.lk
Cheers.

Hi,
The Hotel is a really good, standard and reputed hotel. You have to pass small river or stream line (width is around 20m and the depth of around 3-5m) it’s a very slow and smooth stream line where the hotel has a catamaran (Ferry) service which is free of charge.
I have been to the hotel few years back it was totally different experience for me. Now the hotel has totally moved into the concept of Eco Friendly Tourism. I think they even have plenty animals (harmless animals like dears and birds etc.) rather like open mini zoo living inside the hotel premises to promote this eco tourism. They have plenty of other facilities too.
The food is very delicious and mouth watering. You can find restaurants and other shops in the nearest town so no worries…Hopefully you will have a good time staying there….
Seashells Negambo is another good standard hotel. It’s a 2 star (**) hotel and what do you want to know exactly about it?
If you need more info or any help feel free to contact me…..
Regards
Rupesh

Thank you for your replies.
We are booked to stay at the Ranweli. We have recently recieved a letter telling us that there will be some renovations to the beach during our stay. We were offered the Seashells as an alternative and I was unsure whether or not this would be a better choice.
I have decided to stick with the Ranweli as they say the renovations will not affect us too much. I was concerned that perhaps there wouldn't be anywhere for us to visit as the hotel is situated on its own.
Are there regular boats to take you across the water?
Thank you again for your help.

Hi again,
Well don’t worry about traveling it's not a big river it's only a small stream line. As far I can remember it was around 20m in width. They have catamaran or the ferry service at any time take you from the hotel to the car park for free of charge.
If you check the website it seems like a big river but its actually its a small stream line! It will take you less than 2 min to get to the other side as far as I remember. If you are good swimmer you can even swim that small stream line or rather cannel! (Well the staff didn’t allow my fathers friend to swim for safety reason)
Cheers
