Travel Tips for Kaohsiung

Twin Pagodas

by seagoingJLW

Visit the Dragon and Lion Pagodas. The dragon's throat is the entrance and the lion's mouth is the exit. This symbolizes turning bad luck to good fortune. Inside there are paintings of heaven and hell and of China's most obedient sons.

Sun Valley...

by kenmerk

Sorry no five star ski resorts at Taiwan's version of :"Sun Valley", just lunar landscapes to be had...

This is the sorta place that you would never expect to find in Taiwan... Looks like it belongs in Death Valley or some place like that....

True Love Pier

by chewy3326

True Love Pier (Jin-ai Matou) (真愛碼頭) is at the southern end of Love River. This is a rather interesting place; you can board the short boat rides on the river here (though not if its raining). There's also a pedestrian bridge here that crosses the Love River. From the bridge, you get views of the pier, the Tuntex Skyscraper, and much of the rest of the Kaohsiung skyline; you can even see the port of Kaohsiung.

Kaohsiung

by missabird

There's lots of stuff on the web about how polluted Kaohsiung is. Still true, but the local government has been doing a lot to clean up and beautify the city. This really is a tropical city, and it really has strong contrasts of ugliness and beauty. Wu Fu Lu is the most popular street for expat restaurants and fashion. There's a nice music bar on Wu Fu first called "blue fantasy" - they play very good jazz. Also, you can buy camping equipment from a shop on Wu Fu 4th, near the river.
