Chinatrust Hotel by chewy3326 Kaohsiung's Chinatrust Hotel (the only hotel I stayed in during my trip to the ROC) was comfortable and exceeded my expectations. It's location is just two blocks from the Love River, making it quite a convenient place, too. The rooms are large enough, clean, and well decorated; the hotel staff are friendly and helpful, too. There is free parking in an underground parking garage. Breakfast is included, and they have a wide range of Chinese and western dishes (bacon, eggs, rice porridge, steamed buns).
If you stay on the right floor, you can get a spectacular view of the city of Kaohsiung. If you don't, you can still get the same view by riding the elevator to the 11th floor, turning right twice, and heading to the last window of that corridor. The window is openable, and from there, you have a great view of Kaohsiung harbor and the Tuntex Skyscraper; my Kaohsiung overview page main photo was from there.
