Cool Boutique Hotel Downtown
We did not have very high expectations about the standards of accomodation in Taipei and, actually, we were not planning to stay in a particular hotel, so we left the research for the very last minute and, after checking some hotel websites, we decided that the Hotel Ambience would be fine enough for our stay. They claimed to be one of the first boutique hotels to have opened in Taipei and it had a young and dynamic feel to it.
The hotel does not belong to any international chain and was not mentioned by any of the guides we had on Taipei (it is not in the VT list either). Make sure to note down its address, as many taxi drivers still do not know about it.
The young staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful and we loved almost everything about our stay, except perhaps the improvable breakfast buffet and the location, central, but a long walk from any attraction or even from the metro. There are however plenty of restaurants and shops in the area.
Unique Quality: The style of the hotel is sleek and contemporary; the kind of Asian minimalism which is os fashionabloe in Europe but so hard to find in Asia. Everything is immaculate white and lounge music feels the air. The amenities were also really good. Our room faced a busy street with an elevated highway, but it was not noisy at all.

11D 10 N itinerary for 2 adults+2kids
Hi We plan to go Taiwan for 11D10N free and easy tour in mid March 2010. We are a family of 2 adults and 2 children. Here's our proposed itinerary. Please comment if it is too packed or will it be too boring. Appreciate comments about the accommodation too.
Day 1 - Taipei at Ambience Hotel. Visit night markets and shopping
Day 2 - Taipei at Ambience Hotel. Day trips to Jiufen, Keelong, yeliu
Day 3 - Ilan Farmstay at Toucheng Farm.
Day 4 - Ilan Farmstay at Toucheng Farm.
Day 5 - Hualien 近月旭海民宿. Visit the ocean park
Day 6 - Hualien 近月旭海民宿. Visit Taroko Gorge
Day 7 - Wu Lai Hotspring Resort (any suggestion?)
Day 8 - Taipei at Ambience Hotel. Day trip to Yangmingshan/Beitou
Day 9 - Taipei at Ambience Hotel. Shopping and taipei attractions
Day 10 - Taipei at Ambience Hotel. Shopping and taipei attractions
Day 11 - getting ready to go home.

Your plan looks fine -not packed or hurried.
Why-Ambience Hotel?? It is a little out of the Way. How old the kids, Are you taking a Family room??

Thanks for the reply. My friend highly recommended Ambience Hotel even though we were a little concerned with the location too. Where else would you recommend in Taipei that is near MRT station?
