If You like miniatures then Xiao Ren Guo is good . Also if you like theme park rides then combine the XRG with Leofoo which is across the road and visit both in one day. This will make your journey worthwhile.
At Taipei Main Station, board MRT train heading to “Nanshijiao”. Alight at Jingan (also spelled Chin-An) Metro Station. Outside station, board TaiLien’s E-go (Taiwan United) buses to Leofoo. You can also board this bus at the Songshan Domestic Airport.
Bus fare: NT$120 Travel time: About 1 hr
Bus Schedule: http://www.e-go.com.tw/leofoo.html

Also If you like Miniatures then you can visit this in Taipei:
In that case you might also be interested to visit:

Miniatures Museum of Taiwan (MMOT)
96, JianGuo N Rd, Sec 1, B1; (02) 2515-0583
Hours: 10 am-6 pm (closed Monday)
MRT: NanJing/Taipei Main Station

Jiufen, Shilin, Ximending,Danshui are all my favourite place to shop and eat!!
There is another night market called 'Raohe night market' nearby Wufenpu also a must go place!!
There is another famous night market at Taichung - Fengjia!! You can find cheaper stuff there.Worth to go!!
Hualien from Taipei is about 2 hour plus!! Suggest you to sign up a local tour.

Travel Tips for Taipei

Betel Nut

by deeper_blue

The betel nut or areca is a favourite among men in Taiwan, chewed for its mildly narcotic effects, you can frequently see men with red stained teeth, who have just taken it. The so-called betel nut beauties sell them from thousands of little booths all over Taiwan with lots of neon lights, most wear skimpy outfits to attract trade.

Yehliu's Past

by keeweechic

The Japanese occupied the area during 1895-1945 and built a gun emplacement in Yehliu to protect Keelung Harbour. The area was not open to the public because of concerns for coastal defense. When the ROC government moved to Taiwan, they enforced a curfew along the coast.

Location : Yehliu - North Taiwan

Snake Alley

by keeweechic

A visit to Snake Alley in the evening is interesting. The area has become a popular night market. There are shopping stalls and also many restaurants, some still serving snake, turtle and other gourmet dishes, but don't worry - 'normal' Asian food prevails.

Beware, the fellas, entertaining you with the snakes, do not like you to take photos and will get pretty upset if you do - but try it anyway.

A carnival-like atmosphere, very colourful. You can do this on your own or as part of a night tour.

Little Pei-Ping in Taipei

by yatingchen about Pei-Ping Garden

Pei-Ping Garden is a Chinese restaurant built in 1979. Its location is in the busy Taipei City, but holds the silence. The old ambiance and simple decoration make you feel in Pei-Ping (Pei-Jing, China). The field of every dish is good and the taste is northern (Chinese), very different from Taiwanese local food. I love the fresh taste. One can eat it everyday and won't get tired of it. (like home-dish) Just try it!

One of Top 30 beef-noodles restaurants in Taipei City. A real honor :-) (people eat there and appreciate it) Beef noodles: Big beef pieces with knife-shaved-noodles. The soup isn't oily and won't make you thirsty. (100 NTD a bowl)

Beef roll: Beef slices with spring-onlion wrapped by pan-cake. (75 NTD a big roll)

Beef cake: fresh beef and juicy taste. Just one bite, the warm soup inside flows out.

Porridge: cooked with rice and millet. Yellow color, simple & healthy (only 20 NTD)

Vegetable: Spicy green-bean cake is recommended. The other vegetable dishes are also recommended. ( only 30NTD a plate)

It offers also sets, 4 choices:
1) a bowl of porridge + 2 plates of vegetable + spring-onlion pan cake. (100NTD)
2) a bowl of porridge + 1 plate of vegetable + 1 beef cake + vegetable cake. (100NTD)
3) a bowl of porridge + 1 plate of vegetable + 1 beef cake + 1 leeks cake. (100NTD)
4) a bowl of porridge + 1 plate of vegetable + dumplings. (110 NTD)

It's like the Japanese hot cake which usually contain red beans spreads or custurd spreads. As in the pic, they have some white carrots vege. in the hot cake. I think it may taste weird if a hotcake with vege. Ummm, but anyway, we bought 3 pieces - 2 custurds & 1 with vege.
