Train Service from Taoyuan to Taichung

by KCT

We are planning our trip to Taiwan landing at Taoyuan International Airport on 27 Oct 2010.
We plan to take the next available train at around 10.30 am from HSR Taoyuan Station to Taichung Station.
Do I need to purchase the train ticket in advance (online) or we can easily purchase the tickets at the counters when we are at the station.
There are 3 of us travelling.
Please advise.

I had absolutely no problem buying tickets directly at the station. Credit cards and cash are taken without hassles.

Hi DSwede
Thank you for your prompt reply. Appreciate it.
By the way how much is the taxi fare from Terminal 2 of Taoyuan International Airport to the HSR Taoyuan Station?
Would it be cheaper to take the UBus service and how reliable is this UBus?
Any problem with baggage handling when travelling on the UBus service?

I'm sorry, but I can't say what that taxi fare is. I took the bus from the airport to downtown. From then on, I was either on the metro or the train.

Travel Tips for Taipei

Turtles

by chikidee

It was unexpected to see animals in this dirty water... But really these are 3 real turtles!
We also had a closer look at the shore and what did we see? Thousands of crabs fighting over their territory and waiving with their scissors! It was great fun to look at them!

packing

by vividvivian

try not to bring many things if you wanna bring lots of food / snacks on the way back :) enough is good enough personal stuff make sure have enough to take photo. extra bag if you wanna have some more gifts for people

Shopping for the Young

by dixonchan about Xi Men Ding

A shopping area suitable for teenagers.

Beware of middle-aged man asking you whether you need any young girls. Just decline politely.

There are some steamboat restuarants and bubble tea cafe around this area too. Shops selling the trendy stuffs suitable for teenagers. The style here is deeply affected by Japanese fashion.

Taxi

by Mr.Sparkle

Although the subway is cheapest, taxis are a great alternative. They are cheap and plentiful and I found a decent amount them spoke enough English to make traveling hassle free. As well, I never felt like I was getting ripped off like in Vietnam or some other Asian countries.

Auntie Gam's Taro dessert

by tangymp about Auntie Gam

Located at the peak of Jiu Fun's mountainous area, Auntie Gam's taro dessert developed from a local store to a famous hot spot all over Taiwan. Jiu Fun had many shop selling taro dessert, but this one is the origin. They had no branch at all, and in rush hour you had to wait. Believe me, the wait is worthy, they even got uncook one for take away. The one and only Taro dessert, can be served in hot or cold style with syrup and red bean.
