Hotel in Taipei for about TWD 1500

by cardorzo

Hi fellows!

I am going to stay in Taipei for three nights in November. I am searching for a Hotel which is fairly reasonably priced (about 1500 TWD) and suitable for a European guy who has never been in Asia before. It should be near a MRT-station because I would like to explore the city.

Thank you all for suggestions!

Best regards,

You can try : - Shin Shin Hotel (New posted by traveller 0007)
Their price is slightly above your budget for the standard Single.

If you wants a single room, I suggest you to check YMCA ( or Howard International House ( The price of singl room would be around NTD 1,800.

YMCA is close to Taipei Railway station. It is a litle old but it would be clean and is close to the MRT, bus and railway stations.

Howard International House is not so close to MRT station. It would be around 10 minutes walk to Taipower and National Taiwan University stations. Anyway considering its facilities, its single room fare is quite reasonable.

I think it is very difficult to get a room for USD 20 per night.

You can check below. The room fare is around NTD 1,300 to 1,500 per night.

You can try to find more hotels from below website.

Urgent need for a reply....

by pink-lover

I've booked a room at Kilin hotel for 5D4N... for a trip to taipei on early jan.. However, after reading many reviews on that hotel, majority comments were negative. Our main objective to taipei is to shop and eat. Is kilin that bad? Any recommendations for a good hotel that don't cost a lot? Need help to change my booking asap.. Thanks a lot!

Re: Urgent need for a reply....

Hi, my friends have stayed in Kilin during their trip in October. Heard from them that the hotel is quite old and rooms are small and not very sound-proofed as they can hear people in the neighbouring rooms returning or even talking! Also the hotel though located in Ximen area is about 15min walk away from the more happening Xinmen Ding. However the good side of it is that they got to explore many small streets with interesting rustic shops in the area while walking to and fro the hotel to the Ximen station. I'm going Taipei too this Jan and have booked Rainbow Hotel for its location near to the station. The rooms should be slightly more expensive than Kilin. Hope this helps!

It depends on your budget. I am not sure if I can post links here, but for example the Leader Hotel by Taida is new and in a very good location for around NT$2,600 for a double room.

I reckon in general NT$1,000 would the cheapest you could spend per person for a "nice" hotel room based on a double. Hostels of course would be half that.

If you need more info send me a message.

The single bed room at Howard International House located near National Taiwan University (15 minutes walk from MRT statation) is around NTD 1,800. However the double bed room is not cheap there. Howard International House's website is

The other recommendation is YMCA around the Taipei railway station. The room fare is around NTD 1,800-2,000. The website of YMCA is

Travel Tips for Taipei

nic lepsieho ako zajst si na...

by renuschka

Plagat na obrazku laka navstevnikov kina na film We were soldiers s Melom Gibsonom v hlavnej ulohe. Dost drsny film, ale ako spravny film z vojnoveho prostredia ani iny byt nemoze.

by ExoticGal about After-school bus

I came there just for window shopping, but the shop assistants were sooooo nice. When I asked them if I could take a picture there, they eagerly searched for a soft toy that suits my T-shirt just for me to take picture. :) I ended up buying a key chain and an umbrella there. ... but not for Japanese tourists who like to buy local souvenirs, 'cuz it's a Japanese shop. :)

Is it Crazy or is it organized?

by Lingualorphan

Taiwan’s Traffic!!!!
I find myself asking and wondering if they are the worst drivers I have ever seen or the best.
My conclusion thus far is that: 1) Taiwan is the most densely populated country in the world. 2) It has more scooters and motorcycles than any other country in the world. 3) The roads are tiny and there are a number of cars, trucks, scooters, bicycles, motorcycles and other contraptions fighting for there space on the road.

At first glance the Taiwanese are bad drivers, but they can park better than any country I have been to (a little better than the Japanese even). For the most part they are really good drivers, who make good use out of the conditions they have to work with.

Many cars have dings and dents, but in many countries the world over in tight citys that had tiny roads before cars this is the problem.

Calling all tofu lovers

by deeper_blue about Shenkeng market

Stinky tofu is a unique asian invention which you may love or hate. I'm still undecided. It has an unmistakable odour to it when being cooked, like rotting garbage. The texture is quite soft and the flavour is acquired. Shenkeng market is on the brown MRT line and there are numerous tofu eateries here to sample the different varieties.

One of TOP 10 restaurant in the world.

by yatingchen about Ding-Tai-Fong

The New York Times adores it: one of the TOP 10 Best Restaurant in the wolrd.

Ding-Tai-Fung is world famous. Wanna eat there, if you do not order your seats, you have to stand in a long line. Who are your competitors? Not only the local, but also Japanese and the other foreign tourists.

Ding-Tai-Fong's service is good. One day we order Shao-Long-Bow, 10 pieces per dish. Unfortunately one of them its cover was broken and the soup flows out. The waiter apologied and gave us immediately one extra piece. Very kind and impressive. Shao-Long-Bow (Chinese bread with meat & soup inside):170 NTD/10pcs/dish
Its cover is very thin, but the soup inside is super rich. Give you a tip, please do not eat bite one bite. Just put it in your mouth and chew. The soup flows out in your mouth and you have one word for it, SUPER.

Shrimp-Sha-Mei (HK tea dessert): 190 NTD/10pcs/dish
HK style, the taste is fresh and you will never forget.

Fried rice: 120 NTD/plate
Seems an easy fish, but the rice is well cooked, grains are clear and the taste is great.
