Taipei's Budget hotel - Kilin Hotel

    by

The facade of the Building may not be that attractive but as soon as one enters the hotel, he could see the lobby is spacious, clean and elegant guarded by two majestic mystical `Kilin.' There is two heavily- used public telephones at the lobby. Guests use them frequently because NT$100 could go a long way even if we call long distance back to Singapore!.

The room is comfortable with all the normal equipment of a 3-star hotel. TV channels appear to be satelite-linked if not cable-based and there are plenty of movies should one decide to stay in the hotel. Besides this, there are the usual massage service but there appears to be no uninvited calls from any brokers or pimps! Breakfast at the hotel cost NT$198 nett payable at the restaurant located at 2nd floor if you have no breakfast coupon. The food spread is definitely Chinese with a plate of sushi and cold noodles at times. At that price, I would tend to think the breakfast spread is reasonable.

The only downside of the hotel appears to be the checkout time set at 12.00 pm. We asked for extension as our flight was only at 6.00 pm. Strictly no extension but they are willing to look after your luggage free of charge at the lobby area. This we found quite efficient as they netted up our luggage and retrieval was fast. They provide the additional service of helping to book for tours at published rates and Flying Dog Airport Bus at NT$150 each.

The best selling point of the hotel is the location - walking distance to Snake Alley Market, 2nd hand market, some jade/stone shops, Hsimenting and the Lung Shan MRT which takes us to all the interesting places of Taipei. Buses to Tian Mu travelled along the road in front of the hotel and they have a stop nearby.

The rates appear to be around S$100, but if one is lucky, he can get it at around $82 without breakfast via internet booking.

Directions: Near Lung Shan MRT Station

    Overall service is good.
Hotel is very strategically located, the area is near XiMenDing Night Market & Hwa Shi Tourist Night Market. 5 mins walk to LungShan MRT station, where LungShan is a historical place full of historical buildings and shops. Also lots of good eats nearby..
