One day in Taipei

by cashew02

Hi,

I will be in Taipei for one day only (02 Sep). As i only have a night, I am not sure whether to visit Shilin night market or Raohe night market? Which is better? Do I have enough time to visit both?

I appreciate if anyone can advise me on the above and recommend any other places worth visiting.

Thank you in advance.

Hi

It depends on where you are in Taipei. Shihlin is more convenient and famous and easier to get too(Jiantan MRT)

If you want to do both, go to Raohe St NM first after 6.30pm (Earlier no good as many stalls not open) then come back to town and onto Shihlin.

I do not know from which area you will head out, so cant give you transport details.

Travel Tips for Taipei

Crossing Taipei roads are not...

by Pete_Thera

Crossing Taipei roads are not easy as there are a lot of traffic and vehicles coming from all directions. At the middle of many roads, there are bus lanes which buses running in opposite direction with cars in lanes beside them. This signal light helps pedestrians crossing roads a lot. It shows time remaining and the pace of walking.

A Touching Memorial

by keeweechic

At Yehliu amidst the rock formations is a statue of Lin Tien Jane in commemoration of their bravery for sacrificing their own life to save children who were drowning. Its quite a touching story.

JetstarAsia Flight to Taipei

by kelnsha

If I'm not wrong, it's the cheapest flight from Singapore to Taipei... It costs SGD321 per person including taxes if you book early through the internet for the month of June (shool holiday)... Direct flight...Leather seats... Good timing...

Steamed Dumplings to die for

by MikeStacey about Din Tai Fung

This is the most famous steamed dumpling restaurant in Taiwan, and is very popular for visiting Japanese tourists. I've been there three times now and each time had to queue in the street for a table. You book your table with a girl at the door who gives you a number and a menu. You then place your order whilst still in the street and wait for a table to become available. While you wait you can look through a window into the kitchens and watch the chefs preparing the dumplings and steaming them. The best way to eat the dumplings is with mixture of soy sauce and vinegar with freshly grated ginger. You should also try the hot and sour soup, it's GORGEOUS !! The Dumplings are great, but also check out the "hot and sour" soup !!

Not Chicago at all

by yatingchen about Chicago Cafe (it's close)

A restaurant with ok decoration (simple & normal)

I was there 3 times and everytime the taste changed. Seems the quality control is not fine.
Once I dined pork rice, it's catastrophe. Pork was watered with strange brown souce.

The cheese baked rice or noodles are better. But generally speaking, its price a bit unacceptable. (ok food costs there) The cheese baked sea-food rice is fine.
Its field is small and sea-Food were sliced into small pieces.
