International airport

by shohman

Can anyone direct me to a site that has a list of restaurants and shops inside the airport? we've searched all over, even the airports own website and all we can find is general info.
(I'm asking this for my sister, who has a 5 1/2 layover here)

We spent about 6 or 7 hours there, in the middle of the night. We spent a few hours sleeping, in the small hotel right in the airport. There were many shops and restaurants from which to choose as well.

Terminal 1 is the newer terminal, but I haven't been in it. Terminal 2 is the older (and slightly depressing) terminal and from memory there were only two eateries at the gates and a handful of shops and a small gallery, usually displaying traditional arts. I'd recommend your sister to take along a book for the layover!

Oops I meant Terminal 1 is the older terminal and Terminal 2 is the newer one.

Travel Tips for Taipei

A Memorable Arrival

by keeweechic

This wasn't a fond memory but it was indeed memorable. On my last trip to Taiwan I had booked a hotel limo to pick me up at the airport. On leaving the airport terminal and heading out to the main roads, the car was pulled over by police. A rifle was directed at the driver and he was directed to get out of the car. While they were checking his papers, another police officer beckoned to me (with rifle 'slightly' averted) to get out of the car. No checks were done of my passport etc and as soon as they were satisfied with the driver, we were allowed to get back in the car and proceed. I believe it was just a routine check. I couldn't ask my driver as he didn't speak English. Just a little bit of excitement to start my trip off.

Most of the sea-eroded...

by AndreasK

Most of the sea-eroded landform types of Taiwan are found on the North Coast, near Taipei. The sea-eroded platforms are populated with mush-room-shaped rocks, tofu rock, and marine fossils, all of which make this an outstanding natural geological classroom.

Shihlin Night Market

by Sakura_Kobe about Shihlin Night Market

I liked this market, because there were no snake restaurants, which were popular in other markets. The atmosphere of the place was good for women anyway. It had scores of stalls that sell many things, and you could bargain. They were mostly clothes for the young people and children. The quality was not good, though. It's a very nice place to stroll at night. It came really alive after 8:00 pm. As it is close to the Chienten MRT station, it might be a good chance to try MRT.

Safety zone in MRT station

by ngcsc

Ladies who going out late in Taipei, it is no worry for safety in the MRT Station.

In every MRT station, there is a women safety zone for them with a hidden camera connected to the control room.

Ah gei @ danshui old street

by MizBlack

Pronounced as "ah gei" or "ah gay" this is tofu snack with glass noodles stuffed into a piece of tofu and topped up with some gravy. So far i have not seen this snack anywhere except for danshui old street.
