Appropriate clothing for August trip to Taipei

by charmjlc

Hello. I am traveling to Taipei Aug 13 for a week to meet my boyfriends' parents. I have been watching the weather and realize it will be very hot and humid. I was wondering what girls in their late 20s typically wear this time of year there? I didn't want to do too casual but also don't want to stick out on the other extreme either. I'm sure we will be all over doing a combination of different activities. His family is conservative so I need to plan my attire accordingly. Thank you for any help you can give!

I've been in that type of heat and humidity and suggest you bring clothes that are light weight and made of material that "breaths." Dresses are often times the coolest to wear.

I think it is not necessary to cover yourself completely but avoid exposing too much skin. If you find that the clothes you bring are "too" conservative, you can always plan to buy a few items while there.

Give your boyfriend a preview of the things you plan to take and ask him if he thinks his mother would approve. That might be a good guide for you.

Frankly , a lot of women wear shorts here -so the Longer type with
T-shirts for casual should be fine.I don't know what to say, but be yourself is the best.
It really is very hot and humid with Temp going up to 38C for a couple of days already.
And the advise from the forummer above about checking with your BF is extremely good. Shopping at this time in the Night Markets is great according to girl talk .

Travel Tips for Taipei

by bafgkm

According to new report, over 40% tourists will visit Taipei (Taiwan) again for the tasty and a myriad of food. Yes, you will never get hungry here. The price range widely from NTD 20 for a bowl of meat rice to thousands of NTD for exotic cuisine. You can eat either on the road or in a luxury restaurant. I love "stinky dofu" very very much, it smells just wonderful, unbelieveable and hungry.:-D
This time, i visit the "official" source of stinky dofu - the town of Shen keng. Let's meet "roast stinky dofu"!!

SPOT Taipei

by ngcsc

Located at the heart of the city, SPOT Taipei is still not very well for the Taipei Community beside movie lovers.

Formerly the residency of the U.S. Anmbassador, SPOT Taipei has changed into the film house which showing a lot of great movie that never show in the normal cinema, especially those non Hollywood movies.

Even for those who are not really for movies, you can just sit at the coffee house having good coffee with a newly bought book in SPOT Taipei..... relax in the dizzy afternoon.

by ngcsc about Underground Shopping Mall Taipei Station

The underground of Taipei Station, there is a shopping mall with variety of goods. It is rather cheaper than XiMenTing but yet it is the lastest fashion. There are many different shops from clothing, music, books, food and even the MRT souvenir.

Taipei yellow cab

by dmirebella

If you are on a budget like me - perhaps one should not think of taking the abundance of cabs around - but it is recomended that your destination as well as your place of stay is translated into Chinese characters to reduce any communication issues that might occur.

Taiwanese noted super hot fire pot

by Hui-Hui about La La Tien

"Fire Pot" is a popular dish in Taiwan especially in winter. We cook various ingredients like dumplings, seafood, vegetables, meat balls, noodles, beef and goat etc. in boiled soup in a POT heated by FIRE by ourselves on the table. The most common flavor of soup is one boiled with pork bone but we develop super hot soup of chili and herbs. Nowadays such super hot fire pot becomes well-known Taiwanese dish and attracts a lot of foreigners. The restaurants usually offer buffets and so is La La Tien, We have abundant kinds of fresh ingredients to choose and there are also fruit and ice cream bars. It's a good restaurant to have "endless" food and to test our limit on hot cuisine. I love shrimps boiled super hot fire pot. The hot taste is full of good smells. I also love instant noodles with super hot soup. The mix of wheat and hot chili is perfect!
