長虹大飯店
For those going to Taipei hoping to meet Chinese Celebrities, this is the hotel to be. Smack in the middle of Xi Men Walker, the plaza square outside the hotel is usually use as the autograph signing spot and promotion area for artists.
Make sure that you book months ahead. Rooms in this hotel can be a bit hard to get since it's a well-known strategic place for fans attending promo events and concerts.
Note: Chinese Name of the hotel for easy communication with local bus operators / taxi

Unique Quality: Best place if you want to see celebs for free. I was here and saw Show Lou, Elva, Cindy Wang, Yoga Lin and Lee Min Ho. But be informed that when big names come out to promote, the plaza square will be quite crowded. I remember seeing fans line up a block long for Show Lou. The event started at 3pm, fans started to line up at 6am.
Breakfast here is typically Asian. Unlike other hotels in the area. Some sauteed veggies, congee and eggs. Although buffet, it didn't take long for us to look for other option.
Rooms area are a bit small. They provide some bathroom necessities and also coffee and tea.

Very centralised hotel in Ximending
We booked a triple room and stayed here for 4 nights. Took Guo Guang Bus from the airport to Taipei Main station for abt 50mins. Cost NT125 per trip. Then took a cab for abt NT100 to Ximending. For triple room, the cost is NT2600 per night excluding breakfast. There is free access to internet in our room. The hotel in mandarin is called Chang Hong Fang Dian.
Unique Quality: This is a very centralised area in Ximending. Very near to Ximending Metro and all popular eateries.

Most convenient hotel at the heart of ximending
Rainbow hotel or "Chang Hong" is a great place to stay, it is along the stretch of ximending and about 5 mins walk from the mrt station. You can't miss it while walking along the stretch of ximending.
Although the room is a little tiny, it is clean and the beds are comfortable not like this budget hotel "Lilai Hotel", which my friend and I stayed in, the beds at Lilai were hard like rock and the walk from the mrt station to Lilai was super duper far.

Best hotel right smack in the middle of Ximenting
Rooms were clean. Standard double room was small but comfortable. Everything worked from hot water, air con , toilet flush to tv. Friends who took a triple were given a suite which was spacious. Best that you call hotel itself to make reservations. Walk in rate for std double is NT$2150 but if you call or fax for rooms, it will cost you NT$1680. We booked through an agent and got a cheaper rate. just try your luck when surfing the net. Landlady provided us with info on bus nos. etc. She was also able to book for us seats on the Fei Gou (Freego) (Flying Dog)bus back to Taoyuan airport. Cost us each NT$180. Got to the airport within an hour.
Unique Quality: Free internet available. Very friendly and hospitable staff. Just walk out of the hotel door and you are in the middle of the night life in Ximenting. Ximen subway station is less than 5 minutes' walk from this hotel. Soothing music while walking along corridors of this hotel. Food available just outside whether it be MacD or KFC or local snacks.

Location! Location! Location!
An excellent place to stay if you are seeking an ideal location in Taipei. The hotel itself is a standard 3-star, but clean rooms and courteous staff. Location, location, location!

Hotels in Ximending? Rainbow's your choice!
- location is in xi men ding, itz juz beside california fitness gym!
- i stayed there for a night! itz like hotel81 in singapore.
- itz juz rooms, a restaurant, lobby... dun expect swimming pools or gym in there
- rooms r spacious!
- NT1680 a night for standard room

I have stayed in this hotel for 5 nights. Easy to find if you drop off at East Dragon using the Freego bus - just a 3 mins walk. It is in the midst of the Ximending shopping area. Only 3 - 5 mins walk to the MRT. Service is great, though I don't think that they speak in English.

Excellent location, inexpensive
Travellers who are not too keen on budget hostel or expensive hotels can try one of the few mid range hotels like east dragon and rainbow. Rainbow hotel is a three star hotel which is located right smack in the middle of ximending. Even though the hotel is inexpensive, basic amenities are not compromised. Toothbrushes, towels, tv, hair dryer and a fridge are available in each room. Breakfast is provided every morning but the menu never changes. For those who need to use the internet, there are 2 computers that are free for use on level 3. Should you need to keep your belongings safe, you can also leave them with the staff at the counter. For those who are interested to stay in this hotel, please book more than a month in advance as rooms are limited and are usually snapped up more than 1 month in advance.

Rainbow hotel
You don't expect much from a 3 star hotel. Rainbow had a good location, right in Ximending, and a 5 min walk to the MRT, that was what matters the most.
Room is in clean,working condition, what you expect you will find. There's the TV with its satallite channels. So many channels. Ther's the hairdryer etc. The internet you can use at the 2 terminals on the 3rd floor. What I like most is the service of the staff. They are very helpful and friendly when you ask them stuff.
Breakfast provided was lousy, toast and porridge. After the first day, we went to the Ximending's Yong Heng Dou Jiang to eat our daily breakfast. Cost us about 30NT for a Hamburger egg bun.
Oh by the way, they don't have twin beds, only double bed.

Rainbow hotel
I heard from my friend that rainbow hotel in ximending do not have daily room cleaning service. Is that true? If not i'll be staying in rainbow for 1 week with the same bedsheet everyday and dirty room with dustbins full of rubbish? Hope someone can verify this. Thanks
