HOTELS near Taiwan High Speed Rail

by aptsi

Need your help,

1) What is the name of the train station in Taipei if we plan to ride the High Speed Rail going to Chiayi? (is it MTR or Train station?)
2) What are the hotels near this station?

Links and maps would also be of great help.

thanks.

Hi
From Taipei to Chiayi you can take either the regular train or the high speed rail. Both depart from Taipei Main Station, which is also a stop in the MRT, the metro or subway system in Taipei.

Travel Tips for Taipei

Playing the receipt lottery

by Yijie

If you examine the receipts (or so called uniform-invoices) given when you purchased stuff from shops in Taiwan, you will find that each has an unique 8-digit number at its top. This is a lottery number where the winning numbers are published on the 25th of every odd month of the year. The lottery is a gimmick used by the government so that businesses in Taiwan have to report actual revenues to the tax office. (Receipts are proof of revenues and the lottery motivates the consumers to ask for them :P) Foreigners can claim the prizes too. ;)

Coastline Makeup

The coastline contains sandstone that contains mud, clay and iron which has a limestone texture and therefore is more prone to erosion by the sea and winds.

SHI LING Night Market

by karinyeung about SHI LING Night Market

GREAT shopping! GREAT food! (Though sanitation is questionable...) GOT to try the Pearl Milk Tea and the 'xiao chi' (little snacks)! And the 'xue pian'!!! My favorite! Shaved vanilla ice with your choice of toppings...strawberry is always safe!!! Comfortable. It gets REALLY crowded!

Halal Beef Noodles

by rld_3105 about AI's BEEF NOODLES

The Beef noodles here is reportedly to be among the best in Taipei and it's halal! Packed with customers both Muslims n non-Muslims throughout the day. The noodles come in the spicu n non-spicy variety. Both were very tasty with tender, juicy beef.

Thai food eat as much as you can

by yatingchen about Thai Food House

Easy & Thai decoration. There you can eat as much as you can. You order one dish by one dish and they cook one by one for you. Need to pay not more than 450 NTD.

The menu is big & long. It's surprise that you have so many choices: all kinds of vegetable, meat, sea food, soup, drinks etc. I tried raw shrimps, fried sea-food, coco-nut curry beef, Thai soup, moon shrimp crisps, pineapple-shrimp balls, peper chicken, pig tonge etc. Besides warm dishes, there also offers you buffet: shrimp biscuits, coco-nut dessert, purple-rice dessert, fruit etc. Raw shrimps: very spicy.
Thai-Soup: spicy and Thai.
Moon-Shrimp Crisps: heavy smell of shrimp.
Pineapple-shrimp balls: 5 stars tasty.
Peper Chicken: cooked and then fried, well special cooked. Different taste.
Purple-Rice-Dessert: nutrious and good taste.
Frid-Vegetable: why? you can eat as much as you can, good for healthy
