Chiu Fen
Chiu Fen is a little far to citydown , it is in a mountain . Chiu means number 'nine' in Chinese . Many years ago , there are only nine families lived here , so if someone goes to town buy something , he has to buy anything for nine families . That is reason for the name ' Chiu Fen ' ~~~
Wulai
by salisbury3933
Wulai is an aboriginal village about 40 minutes by bus from Xindian station, at the end of the subway line.
It's nice to stroll around, have a look at the waterfall, sample various types of food and if you have time, take a dip in a hot spring.

Trains around Taiwan
by dixonchan
The Taipei Train Station is just located next to Taipei MRT Main Station.
There are connecting trains to virtually the rest of Taiwan.
Tickets are inexpensive and you are encourage to book one or two days in advance in order to reserve a seat.
Otherwise, you'll have to stand for the whole journey. I experienced that on my trip from I-lan to Taipei. Stood a solid two hours.
Delicious Xiaolongbao and Shao-mai
by MINOSUKE about Din Tai Fung (Xinyi Restaurant)
Din Tai Fung is a very famous restaurant which serves delicious steamed dumplings. I went there 20 years ago for the first time and since then I had dreamed of going there again. During the past 20 years the restaurant has become so famous and they have a lot of branches in many Asian countries including Japan. I've been to two branches in Japan. When Din Tai Fung first made their branch in Kyoto, I was so glad that I hurried to the restaurant. But I think Japanese branches compare unfavorably with the one in Taipei in everything. This may be because I had too strong impression when I first ate delicous dumplings in Taipei before.
And, I went there again at last! The restaurant had been remodeled. The interiors were simple and clean. But the taste of Xiaolongbao and Shao-mai with the topping of crab meat was what I had long wanted to taste again. I was so satisfied with it.
*They have two more branches in Taipei City. The other two may be bigger than Xinyi Restaurant. Please visit their website. They have an English version.
*Xinyi Restaurant is so popular. I recommend you to go there earlier. (It opens at 9:00. I went there at 8:45. Several people had already been waiting.) Xiaolongbao is a steamed dumpling with minced pork and soup inside the ravioli-like stuff. Eat it with vinegar, soysauce and ginger. When you eat it, take care not to burn your tongue because the soup is so hot. And take care not to spill the soup. You should use a Chinese spoon in eating it.
Shao-mai with the topping of crab meat is one of my favorite dishes. The shape is very cute and the color of crab meat is beautiful.
