Best district in Taipei??

by tomelliott1984

Hi, may I please have recommendations for which district of Taipei to stay during my 3 night stay. I am not necessarily after hotel recommendations, I'm more interested in which area I should be looking for accommodation.

Nightlife and atmosphere is a priority. Which area is best for restaurants, shops and bars? An area more suited for younger people perhaps (mid 20s)??

Any help or advice will be really appreciated.

Many thanks

Travel Tips for Taipei

Breathe in the Air...

by kenmerk

Like any Asian city, Taipei is congested with bad air, bad traffic, and all the pitfalls of an Asian Urban center...

If you live here, best to find the few green spots around and in the city to get a brief respite from the urban sprawl. Some of the better places that are not far from city center include the Sun Yat Sen Memorial, the CKS memorial, Yangmingshan National Park, and Mucha Zoo...

National historical museum gardens

by hatter10_6

If you go to the National Historical Museum or science museum in the middle of the city, near Jian Guo High School, you have to visit their gardens, especially in late spring and summer. Splendid lilly flowers cover the entire pond.

Patina Bar

by Ewingjr98

Located in "The Combat Zone," Patina is a nice break from the dirty bars somewhat common to the "Zone." Patina has a large U-shaped bar, and Beers are a little expensive at around US$3.00, but the atmosphere is very enjoyable with pool table and darts. I met a very friendly bartender there who was 1/4 Filipina and 3/4 Mandarin Chinese.

Travelling from Keelung to Jiufen

by yukisanto

From keelung Harbour. There's a building with Burger King and Starbucks here. Cross over to the opposite side (there are 3 bus stops there), look for the bus-stop with the sign going to Jinguashi. Take the bus with the panel indicating Jinguashi. The ride will take around 40min and cost about NT44. The bus passed by the Ruifang train station and then upwards to Jiufen. Just before you reached the bus stop at the top of Jiufen mountain town, you will see a temple nestled in the side of the mountain, and you will pass by a rest stop. (that's the bus stop at the bottom of the jiufen town.) get off where most people get off the bus - you're in the heart of Jiufen!

Hot Hot Pot

by cheekychic about Ning-chi Spicy Hot Pot

China is renowned for its Sze-Chuan cuisine with exotic flavour and Spicy Hot Pot is one popular cuisine. Ning Chi spicy hot pot uses own special ingredients that creates a sweet aroma & definitely very spicy. This restaurant manages to attract superstars, politicians (from the photos & signatures hang on the wall). Eat all you can - NT499 per person. Lots of ingredients to choose from - sliced beef, shrimps, scallops, baby crabs.. including drinks. definitely worth the money.
