arriving midnight

by renemontalbo

arriving midnight at taipei airport with my party of 12 pax...what are my options in terms of trasportation towards taipei city? the cheaper the better, i guess....

Re: arriving midnight

by xiaochou

Dear renemontalbo:

First of all, we didn't have 24hrs-bus await, and plus you may have to add up 30 minutes to your arrival because taking luggages and passing through custom will take you some time. Thus, 1st thing first, you could make sure what time exactly you'll be here in TIA(Tao-yuan International Airport), and maybe you can meet up the last Guo Guan bus whose departure time by 00:50.

Best regards,
Xiao Chou

i'd checked all bus's schedule which provided no more than 0050 unless u take airport taxi, which always charged more 50% than regular ones.

Travel Tips for Taipei

The "Healthy" Sidewalk

by kenmerk

When in Taipei, do try to find yourself a "heathly" side walk... Usually a long walking path over a number of rounded river rocks...

While walking on this without shoes can be somewhat painful at first, it will feel like the best foot massage you ever had if you can complete the track... (also a great cure for hangovers....)

Watch Baseball Match

by Hui-Hui

Baseball was introduced from Japan to Taiwan when the island was Japan's colony. It is one of the most popular sports in Taiwan. We have Chinese Professional Basebal League (CPBL) of 10 teams. Many fans go to watch matches regularly. It's fun to do it with a lot of people surrouding. We cheer and shout together. Especially it's a good place to relax ourselves by screaming loud and noone would stare at you in weird way. There is a baseball stadium in TienMu disctrict in Taipei city. We could take free shuttle bus between ZhiShan metro station and the stadium. In addition there is a department store next to the stadium, so after watching a match it's convenient for girls to do shopping.;) Bring cheer bars for making sounds!! (except you are good at screaming)

Xinyi Commercial District

by lhe about Shin Kong Mitsukoshi, New York New York, Taipei101

Xinyi Commercial District refers to the area around the Taipei city hall. There are three buildings of Shin Kong Mitsukoshio depertment stores, offering a lot of options, from luxury brands to normal day department store stuff. Nearby is the New York New York department store, which is more attractive to the younger generation. Further away is the not-to-be-missed Taipei 101 building. Inside it there is the Taipei 101 Mall, which hosts some of the world's most famous luxury brands. expect to spend a lot if you want to do some serious shopping here

Free Go Airport Bus

by kelnsha

Free Go, an excellent cooperation which obtained permits from Ministry of Communications for running free-way transportation, provides frequently scheduled trips.

Frequency from CKS airport to Taipei is every 10 to 15 minutes between 5:30am and 1:30am.

Frequency from Taipei to CKS airport is every 10 to 15 minutes between 4am and 10:30pm.

They have many different transportation lines all over Taiwan, inclusive of non-stop lines of Taipei-CKS airport. Tell the ticket counter staff and bus driver which hotel you stay and make sure they send you right to your hotel.

You can always see the bright and vivid sign of "Free Go Bus" going through all over the towns.

Night market adventure

by hatter10_6 about Shi lin Night Market

Although the food booths and stands in the night markets look pretty dirty, they are quite edible. If a place is busy, it usually indicates that the place is good and has fresh food. It's okay, humans are more hardy than they look. They don't die easily. rou-geng, which translates to meat stick-soup. Very tasty. Also try ai-yu with lemon juice, it's a special form of plant jelly. Cool food.
