Excellent Hotel

I have stayed at the Westin on 6 separate usiness trips since January 2005. The hotel is in an excellent location right downtown. The staff has never been anything but courteous and helpful and even remembered my name after the 3rd or 4th stay. It is an expensive hotel and they could be a bit more generous with the amenities (like free DSL and more than 1 small bottle of water per day). Their laundry prices are extremely high but they do a good job and get it back to you the same day.

There is a Starbucks right next door that I always stop by. Fortunately, there is a convenience store 1/2 block away (out the front door, take a left and cross the side-street). I normally head to the convenience store right away and stock up on beer, bottled water and juices when I arrive to avoid the rediculous prices of the mini-bar.

There is a Cigar bar (Chesterfields) in the hotel that is pretty swank. The drinks are priced high but it is a pretty mellow place to hang out and enjoy a stogie. I had one of the smaller $10 cigars and a couple of Guiness' and was surprised at the $40+ bill (that's $15 per beer!).

Unique Quality: Location, friendly and competent staff, clean, well lit interior. Nice place!

Help me pick a hotel in Taipei

by clmetal

Hi looking for someone who knows the city well. We will be there for 20 hours (overnight). We would like to see the night market and the following morning, we'd like to see Taipei 101.

I get free points at Starwood, so I'd like to stay at a Starwood hotel and they have 3 there.

My question is how convenient are these 3 from the airport and the 2 attractions I'd like to see? I'm under the impression that the Sheraton is the best.

thanks

Four Points by Sheraton Chung Ho, Taipei (this would be the cheapest in terms of points)
631 Chung Cheng Road, Chung Ho City
Taipei, 235 Taiwan

Sheraton Taipei Hotel
12 Zhong Xiao East Road
Sec 1 R.O.C.
Taipei, Taiwan

The Westin Taipei (this would require the highest number of points)

Hi,
The Airbus West has a stop at the Sheraton Taipei.
It is on the blue MRT Line(Subway) Shangdao TempleMRT Stop - Exit 1. It goes straight to the Taipei City Hall MRT stop. Exit 2-Outside there is the Free Shuttle Bus to 101 building.
Sheraton Taipei Hotel
12 Zhong Xiao East Road.
Take the MRT to Taipei Main Station, switch to Red line going towards Danshui. Get off at Jiantan MRT stop, Exit 1 on the right side for the Largest Night Market-Shihlin NM. Opp the MRT - A Grey low building is just a Food center. The Main Light Market and food streets etc, is on the right after the traffic lights. Just follow the crowd.
