What hotels are near the taipei intl convention center? Are they located near the shopping district?
Re: hotels
by mitata
Taipei international convention centre is in the heart of the city and shopping centre and next to the Taipei 101 skyscraper. There is a big shopping mall in 101.
I can recommend you to stay in Agora Garden Hotel. It is a nice hotel in central Taipei and very close to Taipei 101. Clean and the staff are very kind. The hotel is 5 minutes walking distance to convention centre.

The Grand Hyatt is right beside the TICC.

Many people also stay at the Grand Hyatt next door to the TICC but they get deals from their Travel agents or have some corporate program.

There is the Xinyi Shopping area just outside the Hotel and TICC.
The Taipei 101 Shopping Complex is also opposite the Hotel.
You did not mention your budget.

Grand Hyatt would be the best hotels for you i guess. I recommend you a travel agent called www.AsiaTravelCare.com that i used for my Taipei Trip before. Their Taipei hotels price are quite competitive, you may email them at mkt@asiatravelcare.com

Red House Theater
by dixonchan
The “Red House” is a western-style octagonal red-brick building constructed in the West Gate district (Ximending) nearly a hundred years ago (during the early stage of the Japanese occupation of Taiwan, 1895-1945). The structure used to house a lively market where Japanese preserves, books, and clothing were sold, along with local Taiwanese produce. The old building has now been granted a new lease on life as the Red House Theater.
Shopping at night
by dennisKL about Ximen Night Market
This is where you can find those branded stuff and delicious foods. The price is acceptable depends on what type of good's quality you seeking for. My suggestion is to look around a few stall before you get purchase. You may find different prices for the same item. You may also get discount like what i did. See how well you do a bargain......I think most people can do...right?:)
Being a singer?Karaoke Louge and Pubs are all availables.
Watch out for the pets! Bringing along with pets is a very comment things happen over here. (So do bring your pet but not your kids.....yo!Joking....)
The shop is about to open from 11am....most of them may only open at 2 or 3pm. There are almost no shop open early in the morning. Don't get yourself there before 11am. Hopefully you may found a coffee shop. Just a normall dressing will do.
Excellent bus network in Taipei
by mim95
The Taipei bus system used to be very confusing if you can't read Chinese. It seems to have improved a lot since my last travel to Taipei. They now have an English website for foreigners.
You need to flag down the bus once you see it coming. If you don't, it'll just pass right by.
Also, sometimes you pay the fare when you get on, but sometimes you pay when you get off. You can tell by the lighted sign near the bus driver.
The fare is not fixed, it depends on how long you travel.
Most drivers are very nice if you ask them to tell you when you reach your destination, but they may not speak English.
Where you can see modern East-Taipei
by yatingchen about Marco Polo
The restaurant is on the 38 floor in Far-East Hotel. The view is amazing. One can see the whole East-Taipei. The waiters are qualitative and can good English.
Each person is served one dish. I choose Cous-Cous. The taste is mild & ok. However, the fine buffet is recommended. Sea-Food Salat: unusual good taste with fresh seafood and vegetable
Japanaese sashimi: fresh
