Definitely-Taipei is a decent place for low cost visit-Travel using the MRT and bus to get to places you want to visit-Most tourist sites are easy to reach by local transport.
Get the Easy Card from the MRT Station(NTD500 including the NTD100 Refundable Deposit) It will more than cover the city travel.
http://crazyazn.webs.com/touristsitesbymrt.htm
Food is cheap and You get ready to eat food at the 7/11s in case of late night hunger at only NTD50 includes rice, veg, chicken or pork .
Night market food at varied low prices and food at the Food courts in all major Dept Store Basements are about NTD170 average and it is a full meal.
USD100 is about NTD3,200 .You might be able to shop some as well-Lots of NTD100 T-shirts etc are also available at the Underground Station Malls and night markets :):)

Accommodation is separate?

Hi
Dont change your SGD into US first etc.Just change it directly from SGD to NTD here at the Airport bank,so far , many people said it is better than the moneychangers in S'pore.

Travel Tips for Taipei

Visit the night markets (the one at Shihlin was particularly nice) and try pearl milk tea! Meeting Kiely (Virtual Tourist member) and her friends, they were so extremely nice to me!

In fact, everyone in Taiwan was very friendly. I met a nice businessman on the plane flight from Seoul to Taipei. He and his friend who picked him up at the airport gave me (a complete stranger) a ride from the airport right to the door of my hotel. He even gave me his umbrella because it was lightly raining and I didn't have one. Very nice people!

Herb Fragance

by ngcsc

After a visit to LongShan Temple, travellers can take a short walk to the Herb Street right beside the temple (Xi Chang Street 244 alley).

Herb is one of the main product of the Chinese Medicine, if you are interested to knowing more about the use of herb, you can make a visit to this alley, talk to the sellers, and they are more than willing to teach you about the herb knowledge.

Sonic Lemon

by kevintx about Sonic Lemon

Sonic Lemon had a thriving techno dance scene with a lot of people dancing and having a great time. Almost entirely locals which I like. It was energetic and friendly, but extremely packed at 2 AM on the weekend. I think they stay open until 8 AM on the weekends? My oh my.. No dress code, but go in club clothes ready to dance.

The MTR, like Hong Kong, is the most effecient way to travel. Taxi's are reasonably cheap here too although you might struggle with English. Keep a map with Taiwanese writing on it to show the driver or let someone write it down for you.

Food at CKS Airport T1

by yukisanto about Can't remember..starting with B?

It's before we enter the departure gate area. There's this cafe beside a chinese restaurant. It has set lunches costing NT280 flat for a main course and drink. What I find value-for-money is that you can choose any drink you want from the menu ( ranging from NT100-NT180. I chose mango sorbet with a scoop of ice cream which cost NT140 on its own) without the need to pay additional.
