Taroko Gorge

by ohaiyo

Hi Everyone,

I'm planning a trip to Taiwan for 8 days for Christmas vacation. I want to spend 4 days in Taipei and then 4 days in Taroko Gorge.

Are 4 days too long to spend in Taroko Gorge? Other than hiking and the hot springs, what other activities are there to do in Taroko Gorge? What hotels and hot springs should I use in the area?

Thank you

If you want to enjoy a tour in Toroko Gorge, I think four days will be a great period. You can go some tribes there to explore the life and the tradition of aborigine. It is perhaps a special experience for you.

If you rent a car and drive around, I think 4 days isn't too long, if you include the area around it also. There are so many places to see.

Hi,
Just Taroko 2 full days will be fine unless you also want to do the Hualien East Coast tour. http://www.taroko.gov.tw/
In Hualien, many of our Singaporean forumers stay at this minsu:

Check back before you come on the weather etc in case of any damages by Typhoons or Earthquakes.
You can try for a couple of days in Tainan-Very historical and a lot of old Temples

Tainan City:

Hot Springs: You can go to Wulai, just outside of Taipei-oderless and nice.
It is now the Hot Spring season , so check for packages i.e. a couple of hours including special tea or meals e.t.c. Note: Best time to visit is on a weekday.

Travel Tips for Hualian

Taroko National Park

by Burtty

We had many great walks in the National Taroko Park. We liked the walks on the Sakadang Trail and the old highway of the tunnel of nine turns very much. Our friends also like the stamps of the plants and the animals at the visitor center. They brought back a booklet with those stamping marks.

LiWu River

by THLIN

Just like most of rafting, fun, exciting and risky. Visitors has to go with a group. Life guard are around us. Sometimes they may play tricks on us splitting water on us. Strongly recommand you take cheap foot wear. You can buy many places in the town.

Chang-chen Ci (Shrine)

by THLIN

This shirne is here to memorize those who pass away when they built the East-West Cross-Island highway. The shrine itself has been re-built three times due to mudflows and landslides. Even until now, the Admin of National Park still strongly recommend tourists not walking outward of the road, small pieces of rock can still harn people.

There was an incident when I walked through the shrine. A Chinese grandma wanted me to help her with her picture. But she call our Liwu river "Jiang"(river) in Chinese, but it indeed is just a Xi(runlet). Although I tried to correct her, it was in vain. Ha ha

Chi Sing Tan Beach

by Burtty

Chi Sing Tan Beach is a beach full of the stones. Some might like to pick up some lovely stones on the beach. Because it is just besides the Hualien airport, you can see the waves of the sea and also the airplane flying over you.

Li Yu Lake

by Burtty

We heard that there were the fireflies at Li Yu Lake so we arrange to take a look at them. When we were there, we found that they had the free guided tour for the fireflies at the visitor center located at the north lake shore from Friday evening to Sunday evening between end of March and early of May. Thus we joined their tour. They led us walking along the road besides the visitor center. We saw many fireflies flying in the trees along the road. They were like the twinkling stars or the Xmas trees.
