Laurel Villa: Sun Moon Lake's friendliest bed & breakfast
I have visited four continents and I can say that the Laurel Villa is BY FAR the most friendly and enjoyable place I have ever stayed. Shih Chen (Wayne) Wang and his wife run a very clean, friendly, B&b that is right next to the lake. Unlike the other hotel we stayed at in Sun Moon Lake (as Laurel Village was fully booked the first night), Laurel Viila rooms are large and clean, the beds are big (by American standards!) and comfortable (not stone slabs).
Mr. Wang's mother and father also help out. They live nearby on a plot of land on Mt. Maolan, where the grow many of the herbs and vegetables that the Wang's use in their dinner's and breakfasts (which both are included in the price!).
Unique Quality: Our room had a balcony that had a view of the lake.
The food was excellent and fresh. We were asked what our preferences were and they cooked accordingly!
Wayne picked us up and drove us where we wanted to go. We defered many times, as we know that he has a business to run. He also told me that the last thing he wanted to to was run his B&B like a business.
You will NOT find any nicer people that love their job anywhere. It was a joy to stay here. If we ever get the chance to return to Taiwan, I know this is the place we will stay for sure.
Also, Wayne speaks english well and responds to emails promptlly. He told me that a previous guest that loved their stay here is developing a website for Laurel Villa. It should be up and running by July/August 2008. His email address is: laurel.villa@msa.hinet.net

Sa-Li-Shian villa: excellent hot spring resort
We stayed in a small private bunglow with a beautiful mountain view. We got a clean bedroom, mini fridge, free tea and coffee (in packets), and ensuite shower and toilet. It was alot of beautiful wood decor and vaulted high ceilings in our cabin. It was designed for couples but we did see family sized accomodation down the road from us which appeared to have 2 levels.
The best thing for us was the two SMALL private outdoor pools outside the house with tall walls around for privacy so we could take a dip in privacy together. they were big enough for 2 people to fit comfortably and 3 if you are some kind of kinky person...
anyways one pool was hot spring water and the other was a cold pool. When we went we avoided the cold pool but I can see it being useful in Taiwans summer climate!
Beautiful mountain views and amazing hotspring.
The hotel also has a great big shared pool area with different temperature pools all surrounded by tasteful landscape decor and manmade waterfalls-at least made up to look natural. We took some pictures of the area!
A very good deal for USD 115$ for 2people!
Unique Quality: check out http://www.sls-villa.com.tw for their site. no english unfortunately but some good pics.

We went there by bus, Mrs. Huang would drive to the bus stop and picked us up and took us to the hostel!!! She also drove us to some tourist spots!!!!
