Laurel Villa Guesthouse is neither luxurious nor fancy in anyway but you can find something here money can't buy. That is the service and hospitality!
I had an online searched for a guesthouse in Sun Moon Lake, and found Laurel Villa has the highest ranking in Tripadvisors. It costs slightly more expensive than the average hotel, but we decided to give it a try as we would only be staying a night. We booked the hotel through its website.
When we arrived at Laurel Villa, we were greeted by Mrs Wang at the front counter. As we can only check-in at 3pm, she allowed us to leave our backpacks in the guesthouse. She was very friendly and courteous to ask us about our travel plan in Sun Moon Lake. She gave us a lot of local advice or information like the weather, the attractions, saving packages, transportation and etc. She also offered us to have a free walk with her husband in the morning to see the sunrise at Sun Moon Lake. The walk required us to wake up at 4am and be ready to walk at 4:30am. First, we hesitated to follow the walk cause we were tired. Then, Mr Wang's mother was so so nice, she made the initiative to talk to my friend and advised us to follow her son to see the sunrise as the walk would give us the most memorable and great experience we would have visiting Sun Moon Lake. If someone is not sincere enough, he or she won't bother your decision. But not Mr Wang's family, all of their family members give their sincerity to all their guests.
So, we did wake up at 4am and did the sunrise tour in that morning! It was truly amazing! I will describe more later in my other tips!
Laurel Villa has two kinds of accommodation, regular guest rooms and modern furnish room with sofa beds. We stayed in one of the modern furnish room or Kaleidoscope rooms. The room is very comfortable and very clean! The shower is great too! The only con we had is that the room does not have a great view of the Lake. But we were okay with it as it was expected.
We enjoyed their healthy breakfast as well especially their own planted red tea!
I would highly recommend this guesthouse to all my friends in VT, especially those who are visiting Sun Moon Lake for the first time!

During my online search for a hotel in Cingjing, nothing comes cheap! Sunnydale House is recommended by our friend who had visited Cingjing and stayed in the guesthouse. I checked out its website and had our friend booked for us through emailing the host.
This is the best room we had during our 10-day trip to Taiwan. I could hardly spend more than US$80 for a night accomodation in any place in the world. But this was one of the exceptional cases I spent NT$3150 or US$107 for a night staying here. Why? The views were worth any penny I spent in this guesthouse.
Sunnydale House is conveniently located along the main road with a bus-stop. You need to let the bus driver to stop you at 壽亭站 shou ting zhan, or get ready a note card. The bus stops in front of the guesthouse.
The staffs are very friendly to do whatever to make us feel comfortable. They arranged transport for us to see the main attractions in Cingjing for free and guided us the way to return to the guesthouse. Anyway, it is very easy to walk around Cingjing by foot or the public buses.
I felt so wow by going into the room with such beautiful views of the mountain. The room has a cold breeze despite it was in the summer. The room is spacious with a flat screen TV, King size bed, sofa and coffee table. The room has a balcony with sliding glass door with 180 degree of the mountain views. It has a nice view of the Cingjing version of Scotland Villa.
The room rate includes breakfast and dinner in our package.
I would recommend this guesthouse to all my friends visiting Cingjing!
Check out its website for more information. Unfortunately, it is written in Chinese only. Or just email them in English, they will reply you accordingly.
CingJing Veterans' Hotel is Cingjing Farm's official accommodation, although it is situated outside the farm, or to be exact directly opposite Cingjing Farm's Little Switzerland Garden. It's NT$2,400-per-room (for 2 persons) includes 2 tickets to Cingjing Farm's Little Switzerland and Green-Green-Grassland.
The hotel room, at least the standard double room I stayed in, is very small. Once you open up your luggage, there's hardly any room to walk.
However, hotel is clean and tidy, and there are two - not one, but two - 7-Eleven stores just outside, a MOS Burger shop, and other small eateries next door. Breakfast is so-so standard porridge.
Wonderful, quiet and peaceful. Fact is this resort is located inside some small lane, but the advantage is that this place is very quiet at night. Owners are very friendly, and happy to share what places are attractions are nearby. Rooms are beautifully decorated and feels very homely.
Quiet and Cozy, but a little out of the way. Our car's GPS couldn't locate this resort but my iPhone's Apple map can.
This is a cozy little B&B located opposite the Shueishi Pier in Sun Moon Lake. Unlike the more expensive hotels, the rooms here are on average half the price, doesn't have any views of the lake, and the rooms and corridors are a little bit cramped but felt cozy and warm. It is conveniently located right opposite the Shueishi Pier.
Breakfast is simple porridge, nothing glamorous.
SpaHome is a small hotel with only 10 rooms and all rooms face the lake. The hotel is very new, very clean, very comfortable, and the breakfast is fabulous. Hotel staff is very friendly and helpful. The price is a bit steep, but it's worth it.
1. Very clean and cozy hotel with a modern and luxurious feel.
2. The breakfast.
550 NTD including Buffet breakfast, double bed in a 4-people room but no roommate, shower & WC in the room, TV in the room
Private balcony in the room with nice view
I have visited four continents and I can say that the Laurel Villa is BY FAR the most friendly and enjoyable place I have ever stayed. Shih Chen (Wayne) Wang and his wife run a very clean, friendly, B&b that is right next to the lake. Unlike the other hotel we stayed at in Sun Moon Lake (as Laurel Village was fully booked the first night), Laurel Viila rooms are large and clean, the beds are big (by American standards!) and comfortable (not stone slabs).
Mr. Wang's mother and father also help out. They live nearby on a plot of land on Mt. Maolan, where the grow many of the herbs and vegetables that the Wang's use in their dinner's and breakfasts (which both are included in the price!).
Our room had a balcony that had a view of the lake.
The food was excellent and fresh. We were asked what our preferences were and they cooked accordingly!
Wayne picked us up and drove us where we wanted to go. We defered many times, as we know that he has a business to run. He also told me that the last thing he wanted to to was run his B&B like a business.
You will NOT find any nicer people that love their job anywhere. It was a joy to stay here. If we ever get the chance to return to Taiwan, I know this is the place we will stay for sure.
Also, Wayne speaks english well and responds to emails promptlly. He told me that a previous guest that loved their stay here is developing a website for Laurel Villa. It should be up and running by July/August 2008. His email address is: email@example.com
We stayed in a small private bunglow with a beautiful mountain view. We got a clean bedroom, mini fridge, free tea and coffee (in packets), and ensuite shower and toilet. It was alot of beautiful wood decor and vaulted high ceilings in our cabin. It was designed for couples but we did see family sized accomodation down the road from us which appeared to have 2 levels.
The best thing for us was the two SMALL private outdoor pools outside the house with tall walls around for privacy so we could take a dip in privacy together. they were big enough for 2 people to fit comfortably and 3 if you are some kind of kinky person...
anyways one pool was hot spring water and the other was a cold pool. When we went we avoided the cold pool but I can see it being useful in Taiwans summer climate!
Beautiful mountain views and amazing hotspring.
The hotel also has a great big shared pool area with different temperature pools all surrounded by tasteful landscape decor and manmade waterfalls-at least made up to look natural. We took some pictures of the area!
A very good deal for USD 115$ for 2people!
check out http://www.sls-villa.com.tw for their site. no english unfortunately but some good pics.
