Hostel? What to do in Taitung?

by Marcialina

I need help in finding good hostel in Taitung for a night stay. Of is it worth to stay a night? Boring or exciting? What shall I do for a day in Taitung? I will be buying the Round The Island Train Ticket so I just slot in Taitung to make it worth the money. Hee........

I liked the nightmarket. There's a huge park where you can rent a bicycle. They flew huge and nice kites next to the beach. You could take a flight to Lanyu, an isolated and somehow interesting little island as a day trip. At the sunset I recommend getting a motorbike if you are able to, and ride down to Chipen Hotsprings for a boiling bath, as the landscape around Taitung is pretty nice, and if the sky is broken, the sunset reflecting on the water rice fields makes that ride magical.

Thanks for the suggestion of the hotspring. It sounds interesting but i can't ride, not even bicycle (hee...). Can i take any public transport there? How much is the fare and the entrance fee of the hotspring? By the way, any recommendation on hostel? I'll be backpacking alone.

mmh .. in that case, there's a nice tourist office next to the main bus station, you could ask there how to reach Chipen without your own wheels. There are many places to bath, most of them belonging to Hotels I guees. But there was one with open pools, charming, very clean and cheap. Unfortunately I don´t rememeber how to walk there but you could ask the friendly locals describing it.
For the hostel I suggest asking the politely female staff at the tourist office described above, there are a lot of them around the bust station area.
In Hualien, you ask later, I slept at a hotel just across the train station square, a red building in a corner. The staff was very nice, it wwas about 1000 nt$. When there I deeply recommend you taking a rafting trip to the sigolokuan river. I promise you wont regret it.

hey
i also plan to go to chihpen hot springs from taitung...
i have looked into public transport here's what i found:

the dingdong inland bus station in taitung has frequent services to chihpen. some buses do not go all the way into chihpen but stop at the entrance. others will take you all the way to the forest recreation area. make sure you get the right bus to where you want to go, check with driver when you buy your ticket.
to the entrance of the resort it costs NT42, to the chingchueh temple (about half way in) it costs NT49 and all the way to the recreation area costs NT51.
the time table changes constantly, so check with bus station in taitung for current times when you get there. the first bus usually leaves taitung around 6.30am.

don't know if the ticket prices are still the same.. but i hope that helps you
if you have the time i recommend you have a look around the forest recreation area and some of the other sites at chihpen, the photos i've seen just look so beautiful. there are so many hot springs hotels and such all throughout this area that allow non-guests to use their facilities for a fee. and there are outdoor hot spring pools up in the Yunshanyang and awayang camping grounds near the forest recreation area... for a more natural environment hot spring soak
have fun ^.~

Elwanbi Park & Lighthouse (ÃZÆq»ó¤½¶é,¿O¶ð)

by sunnywong

The park is located at the southernmost tip of Taiwan and is known for its eye-catching lighthouse. Which is a white cylinder at a height of 20m and more, it can light far away and so gets the name " the East Asian Light". In the park the limestone formations of coral reefs are everywhere. Which have been eroded by the rain and seawater for long time and therefore form many strange-shaped caves and rocks. Here is also a good place to watch birds, because many great migrants pass through here every autumn.

Taitung

by Burtty

Taitung is located at the southeast of Taiwan. Because it has not been over delevoped, you can see many beautiful natural scenes there. You can visit many attractions along route 11 coastal highway or route 9 valley high way between Hualien and Taitung.
