Tianxiang Youth Activity Center: Tianxiang's best budget option

The Youth Activity Center is a clean, spacious hostel located in the heart of the park at Tianxiang, 20 km from the park entrance. The dorm rooms here are very comfortable- most rooms have four beds, a coffeemaker, showers, and a TV. I came during midweek and I was one of the only guests at the hostel (and one of the few visitors at Tianxiang!). Breakfast is included; you can choose between Chinese (congee) and Western (toast) breakfast items. Dinner is also offered for an extra NT 180; while not superb, the food here is generally better than the food sold by the restaurants by the bus stop. Internet and a massage chair are also available.

This hostel is close to many of the trailheads in the Tianxiang area; some rooms offer views of nearby mountains and of a recent rockslide. There's a large common area in the center of the hostel and a small cafe right outside.

Grand Formosa Taroko: Oasis Within A Wonder

I'm sure it would've been a nice place to stay, though most likely not for the budget conscious people like me. I just got to stay 30 minutes for lunch outside and a look in the lobby. Your best bet is staying in Hualien and getting transport on your own into the gorge.

Didn't stay here but it seemed like a great place to get away from it all. It's right in the heart of Taroko Gorge.

CYC Tienhsiang Youth Activity Centre: Affordable & comfortable

Clean and comfortable. The room is fully furnished with bathroom and a shower.

In my opinion, the quality is comparable to a hotel, and I think the only difference is that it lacks the luxury.

Dinner was great and cheap. But you have to order in advance. It came with soup, 3 dishes of meat and veggies, and rice.
