Stayed in Bedrock Guesthouse before going to Koh Samet Island as arrived after the last ferry and did not want to spend 2000 baht on a speedboat. Bedrock is i think about 250 metres east of the bus station for buses arriving from Ekamai bus station in Bangkok. They have fan rooms on offer very cheap 200 baht per night. I chose an aircon room with an ocean view for 700 baht per night. Quite a cool place for a night or 2. There bar is done up like fred flinstones house quite funny actually. They cook western food from the grill in the bar but the only trouble is the smell makes you want to eat all the time. Its run by an Aussie guy and his wife who were great hosts along with the locals that seem to drink there. The aircon room looks very new had western toilets, big bathrooms too big actually, hot water, fridge and cupboards tv dvd player and they loan you dvd,s as no satellite tv in the rooms. However they have Sat TV outdoor in the big seating area and also in the bar. The staff speak english and the service in all areas was good. Its a big property even has a largish beer garden out the front. They even dropped me off in their car to the pier some 700 metres away the morning i checked out.
Another good point is they have a separate kitchen for Thai food. The locals i drank with were either other bar owners of guesthouse guests. They have music in the bar coming live from a laptop whereby customers can choose there own music. However everyone wants to be a DJ.
Finally as i travel with my laptop they have wifi for free or laptops in the bar for people to use.
When i finished my Samet trip i stayed again for another night before bussing back to Bangkok. Got back to Bedrock mid afternoon and checked in hired a motor bike and looked around the area specially the beaches around 5 kms away from bedrock.
Free Wifi, excellent room quality, Staff polite and happy, Motor bikes for hire, food brilliant and beer cold
