My No 1 choice in BKK transit
I have visited this place a few times in transit from abroad to another international flight, as well as from rural Thailand to catch next-day flights out of BKK.
I found this place when I searched for a hotel in the vicinity of the airport that was affordable, in a quiet location (away from main highways and industries), good food nearby, with garden and swimming pool, and large enough rooms/flexible solutions. And - affordable!
The name and place itself has an interesting history and a link with Seattle's "13 Coins". That means also that foreign visitors are very well received and taken care of.
Interestingly, it seems as if a hotel has been built aound a restaurant, not the other way around. Lots of local Thais come here to eat. Sometimes live music, often country&western renditions, more or less successful.
I am not readily moved to recommend a place warmly, but with this one I do!
Unique Quality: It is more a restaurant than a hotel; it is as if the guest here come to eat. There are a number of multibed suites that seems to be taken up by local partygoers doing birthdays and karaoke stuff - but very decent.
Close enough to the airport to work for a short transit stop.
It will be a superb location for a small conference, with some of the suites seating 12-20 people.
The price is lower than for similar hotel rooms and services, however, you balance that by eating a lot in their restaurant! It has a huuuge menu and superb food.
The restaurant also has wifi and computers set up for guests' use.
Can I have wifi and tom yam goong, please?
Directions: Sunds like close to the airport, but not really, you need a taxi (200-250 bht) from the airport to this place. About 20 minutes in from the airport. Do not expect taxi drivers to know the place, just press the driver to follow the street address.
You get what you pay for!
I stayed here because I was arriving quite late in the afternoon and leaving early the next morning and did not really want to pay more for a hotel on the airport complex. However, it is not that close to the airport - at least a 15 minute drive away.
I stayed in a room on the first floor. The room was very basic in terms of standards and the furnishings had definitely seen much better days - you get what you pay for. The pool clearly had not been cleaned in some time and was poorly maintained. The gardens were very neglected and uncared for.
The staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming. Drinks in the bar were very reasonably priced. I went into the restaurant for something to eat and found the menu to be very difficult to understand as it was predominantly in Thai. I tried to order something vegetarian to eat but when my food arrived I was certainly not sure of it's origin and so decided against eating it!
Overall, you very much get what you pay for and I cannot say that the price was not fair. Would I recommend it? If you are looking for a cheap, very basic place to stay within a reasonable distance from the airport - yes; if you want a greater degree of comfort - no.
