Assumption is near the corner of Silom and Chareon Krung, a couple hundred meters from Surawong and Charoen Krung. If I knew your hotel, I could give a better distance.

Once you supply the name of the hotel, then perhaps Curt can also look at http://208.106.175.12/dotnet/showchurches.aspx?type=CITYRADIUS&q=&country=Thailand&city=Bangkok&countrycode=TH&statecode=
for the list of Catholic churches in the city...

From anywhere on Surawong, Assumption would, most likely, be closest. Holy Redeemer, off Wireless, on Raum Rudi would be next.

Travel Tips for Bangkok

Preferred Seating

by kenmerk

One thing that you have to love about Bangkok International Airport is the priority given to the local monks. Not only are they allowed to board the aircraft with the business and first class passengers, they also have their own reserved comfy chair seating sections roped off for them around the airport.

It is good to see some respect is given to people who deserve it....

River Cruise - Wat Rakang Kositharam

by Audrey118

Across on the other side of the river, is the Chang Pier' with on eof the most original temples left from the Rattanakosin Period.

The rarely visited Wat Rakang Kositharam is noted for its three-tier roof and decorated roof supports of unusual size and elegance, retouched interior frescoes, and beautiful three-sectioned library restored several years ago by the Association of Siamese Architects.

King Rama I lived there before he was installed on the throne

Thai Customs and Taboos

by keeweechic

Thai people have a number of customs and taboos which the visitor should respect. They are uncomfortable with very public displays of affection between both sexes although holding hands is now more accepted. They also see the head as being literally and figuratively as being the highest part of the body and therefore do not approve of touching the head of anyone.

don't bring to much

Comfortable walking shoes are a must in Bankok. I would not recommend sandals because most attractions will not allow you in without the proper footware and clothing. Chalk powder helps you to avoid skin rash caused by the humid warm air.
