A Royal Garden Resort situated at the banks of Chao Phraya River and they have a fabulous, lovely garden..feels like you're walking in the Eden..and it's away in the hustle and bustle in the City. Best enjoyed if you'll stay in the resort a couple of days. They have large and nice decorated swimming pool at the center of the resort. You can get to relax as it's quiet and peaceful! A cup of tea in the garden would be great!
Unique Quality: Standard facilities as it's a 5 star hotel.
Directions: 257/1-3 Chareon Nakorn Rd.,at the Krungthep Bridge, BKK
The hotel resort is a bit off the way from the city, it is the furthest in terms of location along the Chao Phraya river. It is located near the Krungthep Bridge. The best way to get to the hotel besides taxis is the resort's shuttle boat from the Sathorn pier.
Otherwise it is possibly the one and only resort within the Bangkok busy city - where you get lots of palm trees,plenty of orchids etc... a wonderful Mandora spa, lots of restaurants and the fell just make you sometimes need not get too far into the city proper. So many times, I just decided to sit back and realx and enjoy the hotel, take a sit at the pool, and sip some coconut drink, or enjoy a meal at the one too many restaurants, have a massage ----
Unique Quality: We made bookings via the net - beign a Marriott reward member - and anyway, they mucked up my airport transfer and I ended up taking on VT member Sharrie suggestion to use the airport limo transfer available at the airport - which btw ended up cheaper, and when I arrived at the hotel, they already realised their mistake, so we were upgraded to a better room!!! a suite!!! and for 5 nights
The best part of the hotel, is they have shuttle boat to the sathorn pier, - every 15 minutes which is within minutes walk to Sathorn taksin Skytrain station - and they also have shuttle boat every hour to Oriental Hotel, and Rivercity - both were great way to get around - and very relaxing and calming!!! although some people may find it waste of time - I thought it was relaxing to sit on the boat ride after the heat running around the city with my shopping!!!!
Bangkok Marriott Resort and Spa
rack rate $115++
Unique Quality: Expensive. Very nice pool. Not every room had a good view - I booked a city view room but had only a view of a roof. Nice in-house restaurants (so-so food and not very cheap). Service level a bit below expectations.
Directions: By the Chao Praya River across the very busy center of Bankok.
Marriott Resort & Spa;
former Marriott Royal Garden Riverside
depends on the time you want to stay there and your travel agency. we paid in april 2002 about 100 Euro for one night in a double room
Unique Quality: great garden with pools, very quiet place, shuttle boats to SkyTrain-Station and other hotels
Directions: rigth at the Chao Phraya River, a little bit outside of the inner city (but where is the inner city anyway ? ;-))
The Marriot is also on the Chao Phraya..It is a great hotel (newer), that has lots of resteraunt(Trader Vic's is great). I would stay here but it is a little out of the way. They do have a shuttle boat that can take you to the Shangra-la, Pennisula, or river centre for free.
Has anyone been to this hotel :
The Mayfair - Marriott Executive Apartments Bangkok
60 Soi Langsuan, Lumpini, Pathumwan Bangkok, 10330
I am toying between The Mayfair or the Marriott Spa hotel by the River.
I have stayed at the latter, loved the resort feel, and the river shuttle, and its proximity to the BTS. But the Mayfair sounds good with its outstanding location... is it really that convenient???
Brother in law has stayed there.
Yep it is dead central to the main action. Sukhumvit / Ploenchit Road runs right across the end of the street. The Chidlom BTS station is 1 - 2 minutes walk. And fairly easy to get to the expressways. Loads of cabs all times of the day.
Best bit is that Lang Suan has loads of decent bistros and quality restaurants.
Wave out the window and shout "wooohooo Lynne" and you'll get a wave from a few other chums who work on Soi Ton Son.
The Marroit is a bit out of the way.
Thanks for the very prompt reply... looks like I will try out the Mayfair. I have satyed at the both the Marriotts; JW at Sukhumvit - which I do not prefer becos of the walk to the Nana Station - it gets pretty quiet at night. While the Marriott Spa is also one of my preferred hotel becos of its boat shuttle (nice and relaxing) and its very close proximity to the train...and it is very busy and safe at the boat pier...as the other hotels by the river also run their shuttle boat there.
thanks again
