Charming facing Wat Arun

Arun Residence is a 5 rooms cute hotel facing the Wat Arun. We could call it a homestay but it is not as they are quite organized...
All the 5 rooms are located in an old house and are very charming. It is all wooden and they really upgraded shower-rooms and did it nice... But of course as the house is old, some details could be better...
The Arun Suite on top is absolutely amazing !! The view from the terrace (my pic) is unique and no other place in Bangkok can offer that...
The restaurant "The Deck" offers nice thai and international dishes... Prices are average...
I got the chance to enjoy a "high-tea" from the terrace watching the river movements....

Arun Residence experience?

I am planning to book the Arun Suite this February. Any feedback about this small botique hotel would be appreciated.

While I have never seen inside the rooms (the hotel allows only staying guests past the lobby), I have been to AR many times for drinks and dinner. The hotel's bar and restaurant is kept neat and clean, if that's any indication on maintenance of the guest rooms. The location is great, so long as you don't mind walking a lot and/or catching the river taxi to most places. You can also use a free bike, from a nearby stand. The hotel is right across from Wat Arun, a fantastic sight. The alleyway used to access AR is, by BKK standards, neat and clean.

Looking for a hotel with character

Ho there,

I'm staying in Bangkok for a few days and I'd really like to find a hotel with some personality.

The more Thai the better, and perhaps family-run.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

It needn't be too cheap or too expensive.

If you don't mind sidewalk dining and like seafood, then I would also recommend eating at Rut & Lek Seafood, one of the best seafood restaurants BKK has to offer. Walking out of SI, turn right and walk to the next side street (I'd guess about 80-100 meters). That street is called Soi Texas. On the (not too) far corner of the entrance to Soi Texas you should see a red vinyl awning. That's Rut & Lek, look for the small sign hanging on the wall. You'll probably have to wait a while for a seat, but the food should be worth the wait. Aroi maak.

It sounds like you may have already booked a hotel, but if you haven't definitely check out The Siam Heritage. It is a small, family run boutique hotel, furnished in the most exquisite style with traditionally hand-made teak Thai furniture.

Even if you have booked, check it out for your next trip (because there will be a next one)! Don't be too shy to ask for discount either.
