Tourist hotel at Sukhimvit Area - Asia Hotel
Asia hotel is popular with Asian package tourists.
Excellent location near Sukhimvit Road. What I remember is the wonderful spread of buffet lunch of Western, Asian and Thai delicacies. It is a great way to try the different sweet, salty, sour and spicy of Thai cooking and the variety of coconut based desserts and coconut icecream too.
There is a 10% service charge, so no need to tip unless you want to and a 7% government tax.
Easy reach of sky train: Ratchathewi Station
My reviews on Asia Hotel Bangkok
The room that we stayed in was quite spacious and the hotel was able to prepare 3 single beds in one room. The room and toilet were clean with no mouldy smell. The hotel did not provide bedroom slippers so we had to use our own. The TV channels have limited international broadcasts but that didn't bother us much, we were too tired to browse the channels anyways. There was a tap for drinking water in the toilet, we tried and were alright :) The hotel breakfast was ok. Leaving your room key with the hotel counter is not a good idea because retrieving it later will take you at least 10 - 15 mins as the staff were busy the whole time.
Unique Quality: We like the convenience of the direct connection from the hotel (2nd level) to the BTS station.
in the center of action
The Asia Hotel Bangkok is centrally located for easy access to all the business, shopping and popular attractions and about 30 kilometers from Don Muang International Airport, but equipped with a direct access to Skytrain. Ideally, but noisy, situated in Bangkok's shopping, business and entertainment center, the hotel has long been popular with business travelers and tourists. It offers two outdoor pools, sauna and health-club as well as a Chinese, Brazilian and Vietnamese restaurant and a coffeeshop. If you don`t mind to stay in a very hustling and bustling hotel (rated 4-stars, but compared to other BKK-hotels ***) in a rather noisy area, the Asia Bangkok offers good value for money
Unique Quality: The Asia Bangkok is located closely to the BTS Station "Ratchathewi Station" It takes only 3 minutes by walk from the hotel to the BTS Station and has direct access to the Skytrain
Directions: by the BTS Station "Ratchathewi Station" (see photo #2)
Someone or a group of people with an access to our room key entered between 6:45-10PM (while we're gone for dinner) without a prior knowledge/consent trespassing and opened up the luggages taking personal valuables too large for the tiny safety box. Fifteen days after this horrific incident, all levels of the hotel management still refuses to ackowledge basic hotel guest rights of room privacy and building security/safety. Needless to say, my wife and I woud ask anyone considering Asia Hotel to not lodge there.
Unique Quality: Its direct link to BTS station is the strongest feature, an unfortunate reason for choosing to stay there for us.
Directions: In the area of Pratunam/Pratumwan shopping
Beware of Asia Bangkok Hotel
Do not stay at Asia Hotel Bangkok (296 Phaya Thai Road)! Someone with a hotel key came into our room during a 3 hour absence and removed all of our valuables. They left the camera and video case so that we would not notice that we had been robbed (I'm assuming they didn't want to be caught with the merchandise with them at work). We reported it as soon as we figured it out the next morning. The security manager just walked me to the key counter and left, I had to ask for a manager, then he came back and we asked for the police they played dumb, but we didn't give up finally they say "you'll have to pay the taxi ride there and back", we said no problem. Now it gets shadier because the security manager and the translation guy are talking in Thai, my husband wrote up the information and the translator translated it to Thai then the police rewrite it, come to find out they added a sentence saying we were not pursing an investigation! So not true and we only found out when a friend had a Thai lawyer look at it. We had to push them every step of the way to investigate it! It was a waste of our time and energy because they don't care and I would suspect they are a few employees involved in this ring of thieves.
Unique Quality: great location
Next to a skytrain station. Attractive
It is next to Ratchathewi SKYTRAIN Station. Attractive? Of course as you can beat the jam anytime. The hotel has a shelter path to the skytrain station. It is a good hotel and the Calypso Cabaret is very good. Opposite this hotel there is a value for money steamboat for 89baht per head. Quite nice food there. Please note that I did not stay there.
A Place to Rest your Head
This is a big hotel with lots of facilities. Large rooms which are comfortable, yet faded and in need of a lick of paint and perhaps a dash of colour. I stayed in the lower priced rooms though so the more expensive ones may be more cheerful. However, it is clean and well serviced, the bed was comfortable and the place was quiet despite having over 600 rooms and appearing very busy.
The hotel has shops, restaurants, a gym, two pools and a few other services such as foot massage, sauna etc. It also has what is apparently one of the most popular transvestite cabarets in Bangkok, which was even mentioned in my guidebook, although as we were only there for 2 nights, we didn't get around to going.
Breakfast was buffet style with something for everyone, the staff were helpful and polite and I wouldn't hesitate to stay again.
Unique Quality: This hotel is in a good location, with plenty of shopping and sightseeing either within walking distance (Jim Thompson's house is about 5-10 minutes walk), or a short cab or tuk tuk ride away. Cabs are plentiful and the sky train station is right outside.
The hotel also offers a babysitting service which one of our group used for her child. It cost 100 bht per hour. She was very happy with the service.
Directions: Ratchathewi BTS sky train station
If you want shopping, this is the hotel
I've always stayed at Asia Hotel when I go to Bangkok on shopping. Simply for the 3 reasons.
1) it's near to MBK (one of the largest shopping malls in the area), you can walk there in 10min or take the BTS (metro) one stop.
2) The BTS station has an overhead bridge linked directly to the hotel. Good for carrying my shopping stuff, no need to walk such a long distance or climb up and down the stairs. Also, extremely convenient if you travel to other parts of Bangkok using the BTS.
3) It's cheaper than being located in Pathamwan Princess (directly above MBK), which is more expensive.
Unique Quality: The service was good and attentive. All the amenities of a four star hotel are there. I've nothing to pick with the room either.
Directions: It's at Rathechewi BTS station (did I spell that correctly?) anyway, it's a stop away from the National Stadium BTS station.
Asia Hotel Bangkok
Asia is a very convenient hotel at stay at while in Bangkok for a short visit -
a) Its attached to the BTS skytrain which will take you near to most of the important places in Bangkok. They give a one day free ticket with each stay.
b) Its in the middle of a bustling central Bangkok shopping district with big shopping malls at walking distance. So its safe at all times.
c) The hotel and rooms itself are unpretentious and comfortable.
d) The rates are reasonable. Just right.
It felt like home coming back to this hotel after a long hectic day touring the city. But thats probably just Bangkok.
Great Tourist Hotel
This is the second time we have stayed in this hotel over the last 4 years, the reason being we group travel with our orchid society and this hotel generally meets the standard and budget affordable to our group of 34 persons. We found the rooms to be of a good size, well furnished and good carpets, although the colour scheme reflects the age of the hotel, late sixties. It is a large hotel, 650 rooms on17 levels but has 6 fast lifts, 5 restaurants, 2 pools etc etc. Our package included buffet breakfast in the Tivoli Coffee Shop, a large restaurant adjacent to the large entrance foyer. The breakfast has a large variety of foods, both European and Asian, cooking stations where you can obtain fresh omlettes, fried eggs etc, juices, teas, beautiful fresh fruit etc etc. This restaurant provides good reasonably priced evening meals and has entertainment each evening, Elvis lives here. The rooftop swimming pool on the 12 th floor is worth visiting with its bar and great view over Bangkok.
Unique Quality: The location of the hotel is outstanding, from the second floor you have a direct entrance onto the Ratchathewi Sky train Station, also if you go to the hotel's 17th floor they will give you a complimentary Skytrain day pass. It is 5 minutes by Skytrain to MBK and Siam Centre, however in cooler weather it is a pleasant 10 minutes walk.. 3 minute walk from the hotel is a canal where you can take a water taxi, a most enjoyable method of travel.
- Easy access, with good location, which is one stop away from Siam Station.
- 2 swimming pools for you to relax
- clean and decent rest room
- friendly and helpful counter people
Unique Quality: The only 3-star hotel in the city area among all hotels - fantastic location.
Directions: Ratchathewi Station
Cheap hotel with convenient location
The Asia Hotel is a cheap tourist class hotel just one stop from Siam Center. It has a direct link to Ratchathewi BTS station. There is nothing much of interest in the immediate vicinity of the hotel. The rooms are very basic and will suffice if you are only spending the night in the hotel to sleep. The buffet breakfast is served in a conference room - a mixture of Western and Thai dishes and not very tasty.
However, if you are a budget tourist but don't fancy staying in a hostel at Thanon Khao San, this is a very viable alternative.
Unique Quality: Directly connected to BTS skytrain station and only one stop from Siam.
Directions: Just opposite Ratchathewi BTS station.
Great value for $$$ and excellent location!
The hotel, though a bit old, was good value for money. We only paid SGD70 per room per night (2 persons to 1 standard room), and that works out to about USD20 per person per night! The rooms (we took 2 rooms) were clean and bright. Each room had provided one safe deposit box and a hair dryer. The others were the basic stuff, eg. TV, mini fridge, etc...
Breakfast at the Tivoli Coffee House was ok.
P.S. The tap water is not safe for consumption, but the hotel has installed a small "Drinking Water Tap" in the bathroom. We drink from this tap and fill our water bottles from it everyday, and the water is perfectly clean and safe. None of us suffered a tummy upset.
Unique Quality: The best thing about this hotel is its connecting sky bridge to a BTS station (Ratchathewi Station)... We took the skytrain to most of the places we wanted to visit, it was cheap, fast and convenient. Sure beats getting stuck in Bangkok's notorious traffic jams! The Ratchathewi station is about 1-2 stops away from the Siam area and Chit Lom area.
The hotel's location (away from the more "touristy" hotel places, eg. the Baiyoke area, Eastin/D'Ma area, etc) also meant that we encountered less touts and unscrupulous tuk-tuk drivers. During my last stay at the Baiyoke Sky, it was virtually impossible to get a cab or tuk-tuk who wouldn't try to scam you...the situation here at the Asia Hotel is much better (no harassment from touts)!
Good Tourist Hotel
Location: good for shopping and sight seeing
Skytrain station at hotel !!!!
several restaurants, shops, pool, etc.
Rooms: clean, big enough, nice ....
Perfectly Situated Hotel - BTS
Booking online will get you some discount and some freebies i.e. free BTS tickets for stays over 3 days etc.
This hotel is probably the best situated hotel for a stay in Bangkok. The reason for this is that it is directly linked with the BTS Rathatewi Station. The BTS is a must for travelling around Bangkok due to the traffic, and it's accessablity to all Bangkok's best areas and tourist spots (check out my Bangkok or BTS page).
Other than it's location which is probably the most important factor for a short stay in Bangkok but it is relatively cheap (around £20, 1400baht per night). The rooms you get are big with room service, free fruit basket, tv, aircon etc etc. The view from your is likely to be great where mine was showing the Bangkok skyline including the Baiyoke Skytower which I saw getting hit by lightning during 1 of Bangkoks many lightning storms. Decent bathroom with bath etc.
The hotel facilities are decent with massage parlours, 2 swimming pools, a gym and much more. A few decent restaurants chinese, vietnamese etc. We spent a lot of our time in the jacuzzi.
Unique Quality: I have lived in Bangkok for 8 months of my life and in this time stayed in many apartments and hotels. Overall I find Asia Hotel to be the best overall because of its perfect location.
Directions: The taxi will take you there or get the skytrain to Rathatewi BTS station
