This is the second time we have stayed in this hotel over the last 4 years, the reason being we group travel with our orchid society and this hotel generally meets the standard and budget affordable to our group of 34 persons. We found the rooms to be of a good size, well furnished and good carpets, although the colour scheme reflects the age of the hotel, late sixties. It is a large hotel, 650 rooms on17 levels but has 6 fast lifts, 5 restaurants, 2 pools etc etc. Our package included buffet breakfast in the Tivoli Coffee Shop, a large restaurant adjacent to the large entrance foyer. The breakfast has a large variety of foods, both European and Asian, cooking stations where you can obtain fresh omlettes, fried eggs etc, juices, teas, beautiful fresh fruit etc etc. This restaurant provides good reasonably priced evening meals and has entertainment each evening, Elvis lives here. The rooftop swimming pool on the 12 th floor is worth visiting with its bar and great view over Bangkok.
The location of the hotel is outstanding, from the second floor you have a direct entrance onto the Ratchathewi Sky train Station, also if you go to the hotel's 17th floor they will give you a complimentary Skytrain day pass. It is 5 minutes by Skytrain to MBK and Siam Centre, however in cooler weather it is a pleasant 10 minutes walk.. 3 minute walk from the hotel is a canal where you can take a water taxi, a most enjoyable method of travel. | | | | Asia Hotel Bangkok (296 Phyathai Road Bangkok ): Asia Hotel
| | | | |
It's been almost 3 years since I last stayed here and coming during the peak period with the SEA Games, it was almost impossible getting a room in Bangkok, the Pathumwan Princess was full, the Amari Watergate full, etc. But thank goodness Asia still had rooms. It's one of the largest hotels in Bangkok with a 4 star rating based on its sheer size, but the Asia had seen better days. 3 years ago, I found it clean and acceptable, but on the return trip, I would say conditions were basic. Walls and carpets were stained, the quality of breakfast had deteriorated and hardly a pen or pencil in your room when you need one. On the plus side, the lunchtime dimsum at the Chinese restaurant on the 3rd floor is still excellent.
A BTS station links the hotel to the Ratchathewi station. Asia used to sell subsidised daily tickets to guests, but not anymore. Theme: HotelPrice: US$40-80 » Currency ConverterComparison: about averagePhone: 66-2-2150-808
