The hotel, though a bit old, was good value for money. We only paid SGD70 per room per night (2 persons to 1 standard room), and that works out to about USD20 per person per night! The rooms (we took 2 rooms) were clean and bright. Each room had provided one safe deposit box and a hair dryer. The others were the basic stuff, eg. TV, mini fridge, etc... Breakfast at the Tivoli Coffee House was ok. P.S. The tap water is not safe for consumption, but the hotel has installed a small "Drinking Water Tap" in the bathroom. We drink from this tap and fill our water bottles from it everyday, and the water is perfectly clean and safe. None of us suffered a tummy upset.
The best thing about this hotel is its connecting sky bridge to a BTS station (Ratchathewi Station)... We took the skytrain to most of the places we wanted to visit, it was cheap, fast and convenient. Sure beats getting stuck in Bangkok's notorious traffic jams! The Ratchathewi station is about 1-2 stops away from the Siam area and Chit Lom area. The hotel's location (away from the more "touristy" hotel places, eg. the Baiyoke area, Eastin/D'Ma area, etc) also meant that we encountered less touts and unscrupulous tuk-tuk drivers. During my last stay at the Baiyoke Sky, it was virtually impossible to get a cab or tuk-tuk who wouldn't try to scam you...the situation here at the Asia Hotel is much better (no harassment from touts)! | | | | Grand China Princess Hotel: Entertainment from one's window 24-7 Compare Rates NEW! | Tip Rating: Satisfaction: | | | | |
We are boring creatures of habit - and almost always stay at the Grand China Princess Hotel. Have looked elsewhere, but always come back, as I am an early riser, and Chinatown is the only place I have found that has activity almost around the clock. Almost anytime you look out the window, there is a hum on in Chinatown. I love to get up early and wander around the food markets, in time to see the monks on their morning gathering and enjoy being a bit of a novelty as almost certainly the only Westerner wandering around, looking like an idiot, pointing cameras and asking for pics. The views from the hotel are great as well. Transport is readily availabe. 5 minute walk (unless I get lured by the shops) to Ratchavongse Pier, tuktuk and taxi at the ready, walkable distances to Hualamphong station, Khao San Road, Grand Palace and Wat Po, Little India, flower markets, Memorial Bridge markets etc. The breakfast is hard to beat at GCP - and usually keeps my husband and I going all day - and the staff have always been excellent. There is also something really nice and truly welcoming about the staff's faces and genuine pleasure to see us again!

 | | | | Shanghai Inn: Gorgeous boutique hotel in Chinatown | Tip Rating: Satisfaction: | | | | |
We ddn't stay here, but we will next time we visit. We inspected some of the rooms of this just opened hotel - new, so it has that going for it, and its very modern and Chinese to the max. Decor black and red and other colourful combinations, with lots of room, cupboard and bathroom spaces, and tasteful little accessories around the rooms. Its in Chinatown, which is a bustle, but its up off the street. Entry is via an escalator, and rooms are well back from Yaowarat Road. Located so that the Ratchawongse pier and Hualamphong Stations are a few minutes walk either way, and in the middle of this amazing part of Bangkok. While we can't comment on service staying there, the staff were nearly falling over themselves to show us around, even the larger suite and adjoining rooms, which were still under final construction. There are 1 or 2 rooms on the street, but overall downside to the lovely little place is the lack of height and therefore view.
Its just so tastefully done, and there is a touch of individuality about the rooms. Theme: HotelPrice: US$40-80 » Currency ConverterComparison: less expensive than averageAddress: Yaowarat Road, Chinatown
