The Dusit Thani, Bangkok
$100 US a night. Yeah, so it's not cheap. Okay, this place isn't cheap, but it's SWANK. You want really nice, but with a definite Thai flavor? This is the place.

If your budget is in the range of U.S.$85.00, we recently booked via internet at the Dusit Hotel which is right and corner of SUKHUMVIT (very central and three minutes walk to the skytrain and metro train and all public transportation). Then there is the large department store called Robinsons ajacent to Dusit Hotel... While we were there IBM had an international conference food/breakfast and lunch was included which did not cost as much as U.S.$85.00, so if that' s your budget, hotel accommodation, breakfast and lunch, then chances are your menu would be exceptionally special selection of food to be served.
I would advise you to avoid Ambassador, someone whom we met and had joined us touring in a group, mentioned that the bedrooms they had smelled liked terrible and even if it was a non smoking room, it was not recommendable, also the distance to the skytrain was nearly three big blocks, so, skip that Hotel. Siam City Hotel is alright, but again the bedrooms are fairly much smaller and quite narrow.
Whenever we travel our priority is finding a hotel that is not decent in price, clean, centrally located and a hotel we could recommend it to family and friends....Have a great time in Bangkok, we really had a ball in Bangkok, but remember humidity is so much higher than most Asian countries so, bring light clothes only, and have a ball and enjoy their sweetest mangos you will ever taste, and all their fruits, they are all super sweet like their grounds are made of 'HONEY'. :)
Cheers to all!
Unique Quality: Centrally located, clean, next to the skytrain, all the public transporation, very roomy rooms, they change the bedsheets everyday, they provide you clean freshly washed white clean towels and very affordable. Be sure to book through internet as you get it about 35% cheaper than doing a walk-in reservation.
We stayed in a 2 bed suite and it was fabulous, not the best looking hotel from the outside but stunning inside. The staff, cleanliness, helpfulness and location for shopping are excellent
Unique Quality: Skytrain is right across the road, night markets, shopping centres all nearby, great location for serious shoppers.
I enjoyed each and every minute of my stay here. Very nice place to stay. Cannot find a better location to stay. The hotel is very next to subway and skytrain. So getting anywhere is like a breeze. Patpong area is a stone's throw away and night life never dies around here.
Exceptional staff; very friendly and go all the way to make you feel at home.
Unique Quality: I loved the way they had designed the bathroom - a glass wall between the bedroom and the bathroom. It was very glamorous. Room and bathroom were very very clean and well kept.
I spent a week in Bangkok with the Dusit Thani as home base. The care, attention to detail, ammenities, spotless rooms, and staff with hearts of pure gold, can simply not be beat! The available food onsite is varied and delicious. The included breakfast is not to be missed! The pool is a little bit of heaven on earth in the middle of one of ...if not the most populated cities in asia. There is a subway and skytrain station virtually in the front parking lot which allows even the most nervous traveller to explore without concern! The Staff delights in making sure you enjoy not only your time in the hotel, but also your stay in their country. They are more than willing an able to assist you in travel plans, arrange for guides, and of course change your currency to Bhat for the evening street market which starts on the same block as the hotel is located on.
Unique Quality: The resturants, artwork and smiling staff make this hotel a step above
I stayed at the Pinnacle hotel for 3 nights. I got my room free included in the price of my plane ticket. Strangley it wouldve been the same price wihtout the hotel.
The hotel is about 2 or 3 miles away from the main area of Bangkok I would say, or at least the palces I went to - the Grnad Palace, KO San Road etc. This meant getting there and back cost money and could take a long time.
Almost opposite was Lumpinee park which was very beautiful and you almost forgot you were in sucha huge city, which is what is so great about inner city parks. Aparently at night it is pretty dangerous though.
Unique Quality: There was a really nice pool, sunbathing area on the 14th floor, but I never used it becasue it shuts at 9pm and I was always out during the day but the views are really good.
The restaurant downstairs was also quite good, free breakfast in the morning too. The staff at recpetion were very friendly and helpful as was the fact that I was taken to the tailors for free from the hotel- but as I found out alot of hotels and shops are linked in some way or another, so I probably paid too much for my suit !
Great hotel opposite the night market, but a bit far away from the Trade Centre etc, however the sky train station is next to the hotel, and fortunately transport in this city is quite cheap
Unique Quality: Lovely pool and great food
The Dusit Thani is a pretty convenient hotel, if for no other reason than it's location - close to a Skytrain station and the Patpong night market, a couple of departments stores, a big supermarket and more besides. I've been to nicer hotels in less convenient locations but the Dusit is easily 4 star quality and you'll have no complaints about your stay here.
Package deals are very reasonable. We must have paid about $90 for the room per night.

Dusit Thani in Bangkok
Central Samui in south Koh Samui
Amari Coral Coast in Phuket
All the hotels were built into a package so I couldn't give you the per night rate. Probably around AUD$150 a night for Dusit Thani and Amari, a little less AUD$100 for Central. Quality of staff, facilities, position of Dusit Thani and Amari were superb, Central Samui was too far away from Chaweng if you wanted more than just to lie around by the pool. Beautiful view from Amari overlooking Phuket. Beautiful pool at Central Samui.

Bangkok-from the Dusit Thani Hotel
Hi
Thinking of staying at Dusit Thani in Bangkok has anyone else stayed there and what did you think?
Cheers
The Dusit Thani is one of the grand luxury hotels in Bangkok. Located in the Silom area, it is one of the most well known classic Bangkok hotels besides the Oriental and Peninsula. Good choice!
It used to be my favoutite hotel in Bangkok and probably still would be but these days I stay at the JW Marriott (the Marriott Frequest Stayer program is the reason for this). I rated as much better value for money than the more expensive Oriental. The pool area is a bit small, but that is about the only drawback I can think of.
Regards
John
Yep, stayed there in March 2004. Nice hotel, great location. Check out the spa!!!
Great hotel with a new perk; it has a subway station right on the property.

Lovely pool and great food
