Good Accommodation
I have not been to a Bangkok hotel with a swimming pool. That does not mean there aren't any. Mosquitoes are likely to be a problem.
My recommendation is the Dynasty Inn. It has a good bar inside and lots of others right outside.
Within a few minutes walk you can sample restaurants from any area of the globe - there is a very good German one nearby.
It is near the Nana Plaza, but the area is very safe.
It is off the main road so is not noisy, and almost anywhere in Bangkok is close to cheap shopping.
I have stayed there many times.
