Cheap and Cheerful

Hotel is basic, but very nice.
It has recently had a refurbishment so should be even better, facilites what you expect, nice romms, bathrooms. Changed every day, new sheets. Lovely people and great location right next to sky train which is essential in Bangkok for new people

Unique Quality: Great location for Sky train

Off the Sukhmvit Road in Soi 22

Average hotel. We stayed there for three nights. The first room which they gave us was so small that we had to bargain with them to give us a better sized room which they did. The beds were an astonishing bouncy bed which made sleeping uncomfortable. Bathrrom was very small.

The hotel is inconveniently placed as its a bit of walking distance from the nearest Skytrain Phrom Prong station.

However, the staff is good, courteous and takes care. Breakfast spread is good.

If you are staying here please insist on room on 10th floor (thast where we stayed), the rooms were a bit more spacious than the one offered to us first on 11th floor. My guess is for the price there are much more better options in bangkok and the clue is to chose a hotel within 5 mins of any Skytrain station on the Sukhumvit road. Will save you a lot of hassle of walking or haggling with tuk tuk drivers and cabbies to take you from the main road/ skytrain station to your hotel.

Unique Quality: They have a small pool on the sixth floor and a fitness centre. didnt get to use it though.

Simple and Cheap

The hotel is located off from the main road. not recommended if you are with your family. Mainly for singles or just a couple.

Food may be a problem. You may have to go out to the main road and to access the restaurant. Not a superb place

Overall, a simple hotel to just spend the night when you are thru with the morning activities.

Unique Quality: NIce proper massage parlours around the area (walking distance)
The Asia World massage parlour is a great place. Cheap 300 baht for 2 hours massage.

Budget stay

Not a big & new hotel but clean in the room. Try to book on suites which include 2 single beds and a queenbed (or 2 single beds) with 2 bathrooms. Good for family & singles stay.

ok hotel

i could not find a hotel at first. many hotels were full during my visit (24th Nov - 1st Dec, 2003). my brother helped me book this. my father and i, two person sleeping in a triple room! no choice! the hotel is full by then!
the room (819) is clean, and neat. strong shower! i love it! i turned off the a/c when i went out but the house keeping turned it on! the hotel is not worried about wasting electricity LOL but they provide a card allowing their clients to state that no need for changing the bedsheet bed cover, so as to help energy.

i stayed so long, so reception staff could recongnise me.
staff are polite but not very active.
u can book a taxi for whole day through the hotel - 1800 baht for 4 person in a car, 2000 baht for 6 person in a van.
there are various local tours for u to join too.

Mambo carabet costs 800 baht if u buy the ticket on your own, not cheaper than hotel price.
hotel can buy the tickets for u and then pick u up at the specfic time, also in 800 bahts.

nice and helpful woman in the locla tour c
counter inside the hotel.

airport to hotel costs 300 baht (not incl. toll way fee) meter not used.

many massage stores, hair salons nearby.

sky train not that close but still in acceptable distance.

breakfast is ok, better than those provided by Tower Inn :P
omellete available

Jade Pavillion

A medium class hotel on Soi 22 Sukhumvit.
A bit of a walk Asoke BTR station and now also to the new Sukhumvit subway station.Soi 22 has quite a selection of bars and restaurants but it did feel a little bit off the beaten track. For some reason I didn't feel as comfortable here as I've felt elsewhere - not physically in danger just didn't feel right!! And the breakfast wasn't the best either. But all in all a fairly comfortable place and handy for the Soi Cowboy entertainent area if that's what you want.

This hotel has had a change of ownership and is now called Grand Mercure Park Avenue, after being the Jade pavillion itr was also called Park Avenue@22.
As I have not stayed there since its reinvention I have no idea what it is currently like inside, but my previous comments about its location are still valid.

More about Grand Mercure Park Avenue

Other hotel

by Pimilan about Again hotel

I stay in many hotel in Bangkok, somme are closed, like the fantastic Siam Intercontinental, a hotel designed by Joseph Salerno, a student of Frank Lloyd Wright, in 1966 and closed in 2002. Some change name and interior like Méridien Président now Holiday inn Ploenchit or Jade Pavillon now Grand Mercure Bangkok Park Avenue.
Some like Stella and First in Pratunam and Sathorn inn in Silom-Sathorn are not so good, Nana, Rajah, Nana inn, Manhattan and Royal Garden Home in Sukhumvit, you can found better for same price ( about 1000 bahts) some like the Regina, is in a small soi in Ratchadapisek, not easy to found. I stay only 3 hours in Amari airport for sleep, so i know only the room and Oriental hotel i go 26 years ago it's long time ago. But only in D'ma a found poor quality.

It is virtually impossible for anyone to predict what might happen next in Bangkok. Its a powderkeg. Consult Government website and keep track of the news.

Sukhumvit 22 is not so near, but not so far from the protest. It's about 2 k.m. from the intense area (Lumpini, Phraram 4 and Bon Kai). You can choose a hotel near Thonglor (Sukhumvit 53) or Ekamai instead (Sukhumvit 63).
