Hotel along Silom Road

The Hotel has a great lobby but dont expect the same for the rooms.. which is rather small but comfortable, great pillows.. the hotel staff are friendly and would try to accomodate. Most staff speak English fairly, friendly.

Unique Quality: Not much of a view though as the hotel is located in the city.. my view was the building opposite ... but it is close to the Surasak BTS station (Sky Train) about 5-10 mins walk depending on how fast you walk.... so travelling is much easier. It is also a 15 mins walk to the Chao Phraya River Express.

Good hotel in a good area.

Stay was very good.

I strongly recommend the hotel to anyone coming to HK and looking for confort without looking to spend too much.

Rooms are very spacious although bathrooms are smallish, but comfortable in any case.

Rates were at the time some 68 USD for a double room standard (althought they call it superior). They were nice enough to pop into the rooms in the late afternoon to open your bed and to replace any water or food you had consumed.

The local branded water (Shinga, like the beer :-) was free. As much as you wanted to drink. although you had to pay for the Evian.

The location is a good choice too. Silon is the white collar district in the centre of the city and it is safe to walk around in the night and it is very well communicated by skytrain and public transport.

They also bring you the local paper in the mornings, as usual in this kind of hotels. Very helpful because it allows you to keep in touch with the local vibe and the international news without having to be hooked to CNN or BBC.

Unique Quality: Pool. Did not used it myself but it looked good.

Views are not great but that is not the hotel's fault because all of the landscape is covered in skyscrapers, so that is what you should expect to see from your room, even if it has views to the river, like ours. We could guess the river, but not really see it.

Service at reception is great too.

The Plaza

A very nice hotel. The facilities have everything you will need. The value for money is great. On the other side of the street are a lot of good restaurants so you don’t have to eat at the hotel. The breakfast is truly the best ever. You will need about 5 minutes just to see the entire buffet. They hadn’t any Non Smocking rooms so we got a smoking one in which they turn on the air condition on MAX.

Great location

We've stayed at the Holiday Inn Silom twice now and for a reasonably priced (approx £34 for a double) quality hotel in a great location it would be hard to beat. There are 2 skytrain stations nearby and a taxi or tuk tuk to Patpong is about 40 baht (we were probably ripped off!). There are loads of restaurants nearby and a great food court opposite which does fabulous meals for 30 baht and cheap cold Singha beer! The street stalls in the vicinity are also much cheaper than traditional tourist areas like Patpong.

Unique Quality: Restaurants and bar within the hotel are great but very pricy. They have a cake/deli shop where everything becomes half price after 9pm. Nice pool area and beautiful marble lobby.

We stayed there a couple of years ago John. Not luxurious but the new rooms in the Plaza tower were good, probably about 4 star quality.

Hi John,

Will be better service than the same chain in the rest of the world. Rooms will be of similar standards.

I've done work functions there and it is okay. A few of my clients use it as their home base and for incoming guests, so seeing hte usually check the service before the rates you are no doubt going to be okay.

Silom is in the heart of things too, so you'll probavbly be out and about rather than in without a grin. (Can't believe I said that. Sorry)

Cheers,
Ian
